I'm very glad he is back on MR for he's a very fine reviewer. But is he still a metalhead ? Checking his Last Fm page I have major doubts... and, if he is no longer a Metalhead, is he still fit to be a metal reviewer ?

let me just say I have no problem with Misha no longer being a metalhead as I am not one myself but since this is a metal webzine... 8)

As long as he doesn't review Eminem, Coldplay or Madonna... I don't mind if he's a metalhead or no.

He's said himself that he isn't. As if it matters.

Whatever a metalhead is, of course. Is a metalhead a metal fan? In this case I would call myself one. If it means something else I'd need the details ran past me first.

Does it really matter?

As long as he doesn't start reviewing Metal just to bash it, then whatever.

I voted no. I still listen to metal, Burzum now blasts from my speakers. But I don't listen to it a lot. I don't think I've ever been a metalhead, for I think metalheads are the people with long hair and more love for the attitude than for the music. There was a time when I listened to some subgenres of true black metal alone, that time is no more, live with it. I won't review metal alone either, I've made myself very clear to the staff when Alex asked me back. They agreed with it, and I'm working my way out of metal a little with every next review I post here. Now that does not mean I'm going to review Eminem, I just defend his lyrics, which are very well written, no matter how crap rap is or the music. I do like Coldplay, I do like Andrew Bird, and I do like Radiohead. Although I don't listen to them all the time, as you can see in my last.fm. The music I listen to now is not mainstream, it's just what I now see as quality music, and like the metal I used to listen to, it's mostly about emotions, atmosphere and no verse-chorus like structures. If you don't want to know about that music, don't read my future reviews. The staff of MR agreed with me putting them online, and it may be a while until they say "hey, that's no metal, we're a metal site goddamnit" and I'll be kicked of. But until that happens, if it happens, I'll write the damn reviews in the style you know me for.

does that mean none of your future reviews are going to be metal ?

not that it's bad but, then, why publishing it on a metal webzine ? :?

Me too. If that's the kinda stuff your reviewing, no problem.

BUT, if the stuff your reviewing goes beyong that...

No problem.

I've done so in the past.

Metalhead is a useless word that is used back in High School, cause ya know, everyone has to be lumped into a category.

If someone calls themselves anything but a person, they are poser.

The labels should be left to the outsiders who don't understand.

I am probably the one that picked on Misha most about this selling out situation. It's because Misha has done great reviews and great recommendations in the past and introduced me to a lot of great metal and I'm sad that he isn't doing these any more. I'm just picking on him because he knows I like him and won't be offended. He can listen to whatever he likes but I don't think I'll be interested in his future reviews if they aren't metal. I'm still not bored with metal and I don't think I'll be for the next 20 years.

I just have a question, what did drive you away from black metal ? I know I asked you on msn but I still don't get how someone stops listening to it all of a sudden. You can listen to jazz or whatever but why don't you even give the new black metal stuff a chance ? There are still great albums coming, just the way you like them.

It's easy, black metal is mostly the same now, there are some bands that jump out, like Thy Catafalque, Mystic Forest, Drudkh, and you can finnish the row yourself. I'll be listening to those bands that did something original, and I'll be open to new bands that really do something special. Hence my review on Sólstafir and Darkestrah, I'm just bored with all the BM that is the same as all the other BM, or a tiny little bit different. Also, I'm not trying to distract people from metal with my reviews, I'm just showing that there really is A LOT more than metal. Think for a second, haven't I showed you tens of bands that you like? Don't you realise that Thy Catafalque, whom I know you like, have dance and techno beats instead of traditional BM drumming? If you just try some of what my reviews offer, then I'm sure you'll broaden your horizons, and find something of your liking in what I offer. Do you think one year ago I was thinking I would have wanted anything else than black metal for the next 20 years?

well, i'm not 100% metal as well so i won't blame anyone, as long as someone has still a bit of a good taste in music, all is well. BUT however, this is METALreviews so i'd like METAL (or at least metal related) reviews here.

I got it but I don't agree. I think there are still many bands that do original stuff and I was thrilled when Krieg released their album and I can't wait for the new Blut Aus Nord... I still think this genre has a lot to offer me. I know I will like some of your non metal suggestions like I did before (Vagtazo Hallotkemek, 65daysofstatic...) but really metal still has a lot to offer and I don't have the time or the need to listen to other stuff.

It doesn't matter. I'd consider myself to be a metalhead, because I love the music. Without it my life would suck a whole lot more than it does now-plus I owe Misha for showing me Noenum, Nargaroth and most importantly reccomending me that Burzum!

hail those three aforementioned bands.

You're no metalhead but your reviews rule. Hell, the only person in the thread who knows what metalhead means is Ken, and he likes Static-X.

I don't care either way. Misha and I both agree on the need to avoid pop-rock song structures, and he is a reasonable fellow. I just would like to see him tone down the anti-metal rhetoric a bit.
