Never been to the site bu this ban the tabs thing is pissing me off.

Yeah it's rediculous. Mxtabs was a great site for tabs and it was my favourite one. At least http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/ is still running.

What, bands don't want people learning how to play their songs now?

this annoys me because its not like any of the bands I would listen to would ever release a tab book -.-;

They did this shit over at mysongbook.com. It sucks. Whoever had the idea that tabs could possibly substitute for listening to the actual song is a douche.

metaltabs is still going atleast but FFS this is stupidity, I'm not gonna buy a tabbook or transcribe by ear-I learned to play guitar through tab sites. Aaaaaargggh.

this is fucking ridiculous. Most of my mates learnt to play this way as well. Do they realise the damage they're doing? the amount of budding guitarists that will never have the guts to come up with something new because they've never felt that feeling of reproducing their favourite riffs themselves.

I'm pretty good at transcribing stuff by ear. I think i haven't read tablatures in something like two years.

This still sucks.

All I've ever transcribed by ear was the opening to Jesus Saves by Slayer and last night that bit in Hammer Smashed Face; the recurring riff.

Try searching gp tabs on some torrent sites, I got some nice results. One of the packs had some 30 000 tabs for example.
