Yes, that's one thing that always struck me about Arcturus. It's bigger than a lot of things out there right now.

What was the name of that device in Hitch Hiker's Guide that shows how insignificant you are in the universe?

Size doesn't always determine significance. Those are crazy to look at though.

I've seen those pictures. If I remember right there was one more where there were others that made arcturus look pretty small too. It's a total mindfuck, I can't possibly understand this shit.

Considering that the universe is infinite, I bet there is stuff out there that is so big our minds can't even begin to comprehend.

That's why arcturus are the bestest band ever

or did i miss the point of this thread?

wait so arcturus is a star, which means it would have columns of flame that shoot of it that would be hundreds, if not thousands of times the size of jupiter?

my brain definitely can't comprehend that.

Actually, Earth is much smaller compared to the sun. And Antares is many times bigger than Arcturus still.

Space is so vast that each person alive could live in an entire galaxy alone, talk about isolation!

I love Astronomy. I would love to study that in college but I know it'll lead me nowhere other than scoping out new stars everyday (which seems pretty mundane). That's why I'm considering Astrophysics, do research along the lines of what Stephen Hawking does. Anyway, not only are the size comparisons amazing, so are some of the outlandish bodies of mass that inhabit the universe. Black Holes, Pulsars, Neutron Stars (These are especially amazing considering how dense they are.) It's all so fascinating.
