Whatever it takes, just go.
You cannot miss Atheist for any reason.

One can go to Wacken this year instead, and see good bands + Atheist, :)

I'm leaving for Bloodstock in 13 hours! We finally got our acts together, cut the guy who was holding us back most loose, and bought our tickets. Then we found out the campsite doesn't open 'til the day of the festival (the fuck?) and realised we'd have to get a bus down overnight. So at 11pm tonight we'll be starting our 7 hour journey to Birmingham. I = teh harc0rez.

I think rio said he was thinking about going, but since he's MIA at the moment I guess we'll never find out. :(

Just listen. When you hear accents that sound like a cheesegrater raping your mother, you've got us.

I'll probably be wearing a Sonata Arctica t-shirt at some stage and arguing with kids calling DragonForce the best band in the world.

yeah, you need to set them kids straight. DF are clearly the second best band in the world, they ain't got shit on Trivium.

Why do teenage fags think Turisas are better than Stratovarius? "They were dead....boring! Turisas stole the show!"

Note to fledling Metal bands: wear silly hats.

Turisas were the best band there, by quite a way. But Stratovarius were far from boring, they were great.

But on another note.......I got free tickets to indoor and VIP tickets to next outdoor! woop!!

You son of a bitch! :D how did you swing that?

And Turisas...bleh...I enjoyed them alright, but I think the hype is a bit much. For folk Metal I thought Ensiferum were easily better. I was delighted at how well Petri handled the old songs. And the clean/choir vocals by Marcus and....the bass guy  ..... are just so cool! What can I say, I guess I prefer to hear more guitar in my folk metal - like folk melodies played on guitar rather than the bits Turisas do that are just folk music with heavy rhythms. But I still enjoyed them (insane violin solo!).

Anyway, my recap of Friday (Saturday to follow later, when I have more time):

Pyramaze - I was almost asleep on my feet. Not anything against the band but I was literally 36 hours without sleep and I was yet to hit my second wind.

Rage - awesomes! I knew very little of their stuff, but wow! Very cool.

Nocturnal Rites - great gig. I could have done with more songs from the first three albums, but they were still great. They didn't play my favourite song from the new album, sadly, or Avalon, but they were great. Met them afterwards, nice guys. Even if Jonny seemed to have pretty weird amneisa regarding that UK tour with Nevermore a few years ago that got cancelled.

Aetheist - I was sort of impressed/confused. The sound wasn't great (apparently their equipment didn't show up that morning) and while I wanted to stick around my friends didn't. I guess I'm still too much of a DM n00b to have fully appreciated them. But the bass player was INSANE!

Metal Church - fuckin' fantastic. They really blew me away. Ronny Munroe absolutely kills. I must do more listening to these lads.

Edguy - a little disappointing. Not very tight, and Sammett isn't the best live singer, but the biggest disappointment was the song selection, and the behaviour of the bawbags in the crowd. I swear I was one of maybe three guys in the crowd that knew the lyrics to Babylon and Vain Glory Opera. :?

I really enjoyed ensiferum, I knew their stuff better then i knew Turisas and like it more so i was very happy with their set (especially Little Dreamer!!!). But i have seen Norther and Know that Petri can get much more into it then that, they just seem a little sale on stage. Then Compair that with Turisas, they had the crowd in the palm of their hand. Not many bands have such stage presence. But what was that sauna shit all about?? was funny as fuck but a bit surreal. And the viloin solo was cool as. And i found Ashtar to be very weak live, expected a lot more from them.

Shame you were to tired for Pyramaze, they were a great opening act, but why the fuck did the singer have an A7X T on????

I wanted rage to play a lot more off soundchaser and speaking to people after the show i'm not the only one who thought that, but they win the award for having the best solos!

NR and metal church were pretty good, i didn't catch atheist its not really my thing tho.

I really liked Edguy, But i don't like their studio stuff. I just think their a top live act. really get the crowd going. I think they were just as good as they were last year.

Ashtar were pretty uninteresting (lovely bird at the mic though :) ). Too many daft instruments being used just for the sake of it.

Crapfest of the weekend must have been Season's End. What a load've dull, uninspired shite.

I sayed and helped clean the feild up after everyone had left. You get free indoor tickets for doing that, there was about ten guys who did that then a few of us were chilling and having a few joints with that American MC (who i was shocked to find out used to drum for fucking Saxon!!!) and he said if we email him to say we'll help clean up next year he'll give us VIP passes :D . I got a feeling that i won't be paying for bloodstock ever again. woop!!!
