Do any of you ever find yourself taking a break from heavy metal and listening to lighter music? Sometimes I'll take a break from heavy metal and listen to more alternative rock (Queens of The Stone Age, RHCP, etc) or even swing/jazz music. |

of course! i often listen to some of the post-rock bands Misha showed me, and when i'm not doing that, i'm listening to classic, Katai Tamas or Orphaned Land, even though the latter rarely happens but many times, i don't need to change, since many bands make both "dark" and light tracks, or tracks with both elements, on the same albums |

Yeah, that's true. Usually though, I listen to some Miles Davis or Meatloaf ![]() |

Yeah, I do that in a way...I don't really take full-out breaks from metal, but there are times when I'll listen to anything and don't skip over the rock that shows up on shuffle. |

I find that listening to different types of metal keeps you from getting tired of it. There is quite a lot of variety in metal. I do from time to time listen to other stuff but not very much. |

I listen to all kinds of music outside of metal: OST (TV Shows/games), Jpop, rap (well Run DMC), folk, techno (as long as its not long and repetitive, which is hard to find), and some classical music now and then. Metal is my favorite but I'd be an idiot to limit myself to just that. EDIT: Dont take offense to my final comment there anyone who might. Im mainly refering to myself. |

I try to listen to lighter music regurlarly rather than during breaks from Metal. Say, I might listen to Metal the majority of the day, and throw in lighter music at different intervals. I listen to different kinds of music all the time, partly as a reprieve from Metal, but also bacause my taste is not only limited to Metal or heavy music. |

Yeah, except for instead of going for more relaxed music I tend to go into even more dissonant/esoteric stuff like King Crimson, Time of Orchids, or The Mars Volta. And some post rock for falling asleep too ![]() |

My breaks from metal consist mainly of Coheed and Cambria, 90's music (Pearl Jam, Smashing Pumpkins, Rage Against the Machine), Red Hot Chili Peppers, Primus (gotta love the bass), Tenacious D, and some older stuff--Van Halen, AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Blue Oyster Cult... As for rap, pretty much the only rap I halfway like is Eminem because he's damn funny... |

Wierd Al Yankovic for being hilarious no matter if he's doing grunge or polka. Also lot's of Alice Cooper's early stuff is some awesome psychadelic rock. With some blues mixed in as well. |

Sure. Sometimes I just have to listen some Dire Straits and Mark Knopfler. His guitar work is amazing and what makes it even more amazing is that he doesn't use a pick at all. Only fingers. Best songs being Sultans of Swing, Money for Nothing, Brothers in Arms etc. Make sure you guys listen to it too, ok ? ![]() |

I switch onto indie, prog rock and post rock sometimes, but very rarely will I listen to two non-Metal albums in a row. Metal has enough variety for me at the moment. |
