...and packing sucks. This will be the fifth time I have moved in three years. Right now I'm trying to consolidate all my CD's into case logics instead of random book shelves and CD racks. I thought a 350 case would be enough, but I still have about 50 more I need a spot for and case logics are friggin expensive. What do you guys use to hold your collection?

I just recently unpacked all my caselogics back into original cases :P

It meant I had to borrow a van to move house but it's worth it.

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!! I have a friend that does this, and he keeps them alphabetical. So every month or so he spends about 10 hours shifting his CDs from slot to slot because he has to add new CDs he's bought. That's right, I'm double-timin', schoolin' you and fuckin' rhymin'. Pffft!

Case Logic booklets are terrible for regular CDs. First off, they scratch them. Totally uncool. Secondly, now you're going to be tempted to take them in the car with you. Now what happens if someone breaks in? Goodbye CD collection! All at once.

My suggestion would be to simply buy a CD rack that holds 500 CDs. That should hold you over for now. A wall of CDs looks much cooler than Case Logic booklets. And also, you still have all the cases and back inserts to store if you have those booklets! Don't ever throw the back inserts away! My friend does that. So stupid. He'll never be able to put those CDs out now. It's good for me because I get all his jewelcases and can swap out my bad cases, but it's still dumb.

A CD rack is relatively cheap if you go for the particle board racks. The shelves will bow down a bit after time, but they'll hold. A solid wood rack will run you about $100. A great investment, if you ask me.

Damn you Ken! I was totally against the idea of switching them around, but then Meisha convinced me about the whole space thing. Then here you come with all your valid points and practical ideas, but you're to damn late. Why the hell didn't I post this earlier? I already threw out all my jewel cases (I kept the back inserts).

Btw, all of mine are in alphabetical order too. :P But, I left spaces of four every fourth or fifth page for later purchases. Also, I don't have the artwork behind the CD, I put those aside in a different box (alphabetically). Eventually I’ll get some kind of organizer for them. I’ll just try this for a while and see how it works out.

One more thing, you’re right about being tempted to take them with me. I’ve already looked through them and picked out three to take with me to my buddy’s house for the game. I’ll be putting them back and stick to my iPod. I have every CD I own on my computer, so it’s easy to transfer songs from it to my iPod.

Edit - also, lala.com was another thing that pushed me to do this.

Just get a 200+ disc CD player lol

I keep my CDs 5 stacks of about 20-30, they're not alphabetized or anything. I like it more this way because then when I want to listen to something I just stare at them for a while and wait for one to jump out at me ( I look at the bottom of the stacks because those are the ones I haven't listened to in the longest time), if I really need to listen to a specific CD then I'll use my mp3 player. When I moved I just stuck them in a box, I probably lost a few

Haha. Trust me, I feel you on the issue of space.

Those are boxes of CDs that I currently have no space for! Haha. I used to use Case Logics just for transporting CDs, or when I'd go on TDYs (temporary duty) to the Middle East, Italy, or whatever, when I was in the Air Force, but then I noticed they were scratching my CDs. Not gouging them, but still scratching them pretty good.

Now I just use one for my truck, but it's full of data CDRs of MP3s and WMAs. That's an investment to make: a CD player that plays MP3s and WMAs. If someone steals all my CDRs, I don't care. I still have the CDs at home, I'll burn 'em again.

And you can rebuy jewelcases, so it's all good. I hope you didn't throw out your digipaks!

I've got a bookshelf where I just stack them all in their cases. and then I've got a little CD book that fits 10 or so and I rotate them out of that so I can bring some in the car/listen to them on my ghetto walkman.

Yeah, I kept them. I have a box full of digipaks.

I like your system, but our new apartment is tiny. We are going to be scrounging for room the way it is. I told Meisha I'd do this for now, but in the future when I get a room in the house for my stuff, they're all going back on display.

Well enjoy your new house, bro.

I can't believe you threw out your jewel cases.

I actually settled on an apartment. We found one that was really cheap and is very well kept. Plus the neighborhood is friggin awesome.

Two 120-spaced CD racks. Takes up no room at all. I'd post a picture, but they're covered in washing.

Well, it's been about two weeks. I'll be moving tomorrow into my new apartment. So, that means I won't be around for a while, especially since we won't have the internet hooked up yet. I'll eventually get around to getting it hooked up, but for now I'm going to concentrate on a few other priorities. Anyway, I'll see you guys later.

I look up
as a tear rolls slowly
down my cheek
I think about better days
and wonder if I'll feel that way again
you look at me
with those eyes I know so well
always serious, so deep and insightful
as though you're always in control
But not today
not now
Now you look so scared
like for once you don't have the answer
I gaze at you
looking deep into those eyes
Hoping to understand
why you've said those things you did
I wonder for a moment
if this is all a dream
if I shall wake in the morning
and be relieved
you look at me
with a confusion I have never seen
slowly pull me towards you
and wipe the tears from my cheek

Moving sucks. You have my sympathy.

A little late, but I'll add my two cents on the storage issue. I have to keep mine in Caselogics, since I need to be able to lug them all to the station and back every week to do my radio show (currently, I have five; I put three in my backback and one in each hand). I still have the cases, of course, they're just all in a box in my parents' house right now. It's gotten too heavy to move by myself, so it'll stay there until I move to whereever I'll be living for the next chunk of time after school. Then I'll unpack 'em and put 'em on display.

I'll be back. It'll just be a while (I think). I might get a wireless connection there, but I doubt it.

Carny - how many CDs can your case logics hold?
