THREE BASIC FACTS ABOUT EMO

* Emo stands for 'Emotionally Charged Hardcore Punk.'
* Emo is no longer a living music scene, it died out in the early 90's, giving rise to the post emo and emo-violence genres.
* The founding artists of the emo genre include bands such as The Rites Of Spring and Husker Du.

FOUR BASIC MISCONCEPTIONS ABOUT EMO

* Emo DOES NOT stand for emotional.
* A person can not be emo, as its physically impossible for one to be emotionally charged hardcore punk.
* Emo did not evolve to what it is confused with today, but rather the term [emo] was completely bastardized and raped of its original and true meaning by the mainstream music industry.
* Emo is for the most part a dead genre, aside from Lifetime and a few far placed obscure bands emo is for the most part a thing of the past, but its spirit and passion still lives on in most of todays screamo bands.

____________________________

So, what this means, is STOP CALLING EVERY FUCKING GIRLPANT WEARING FLOORPUNCH POP ROCK BAND EMO. Stop throwing around a dead genre and acting like you know anything about anything. Oh, and either way, I still think "true" Emo more or less licks balls, except for Circle Takes the Square.

Thanks for posting this. I have begun to hate the word "emo" itself because of its constant use lately.

LMAO

Makes me think of some scrawny little shit in a tight t-shirt and greasy bowl-cut hair windmilling his arms at you while you hold him back by the forhead at arms's length.

I like Husker Du and Bob Moulds solo album Black Sheets of Rain but think Sugar sucks.

I prefer to call them scenesters, or whatever. But like it or not, this is a new type of emo maybe with the same relation to it's origins as 'nu-metal' was to traditional metal. Though it's gotten really ridiculous lately where any pop-punk or certain vocals are just called 'emo' when the music or lyrical content has nothing to do with it. Coheed and Cambria spring to mind....Drives me insane.

Yeah, I think the same thing...about all high-pitched vocals now being associated with emo.

And now I'll know not to call the next emo kid I see emo...

Actually, just kidding.

And another problem is I never know whether they will actually be into the music, as half of the 'emokids' only seem to know fallout boy, Lostprophets, FFAF etc... so it is like todays nu-metal posers.
On the other hand, my 24 year old 'emo' mate is a well of musical knowledge and has genuine passion for it.

Yeah, there's a kid at my school who dresses emo but actually listens to some death metal. But he also like My Chemical Romance so that kind of kills it...

That's cool though, as long as he's genuinly interested in exploring other genres and more extreme music. Besides, I own both MCR albums, but did so before they got huge. I know, it still kills my credibility, but I don't give a fuck about credibility!

That's cool if you like MCR...I don't like them myself, but I respect you if you do.

But they really are the epitome of an emo band...or whatever the word is.
