I've actually just recently become a (shameless) fan of Harry Potter. What does everybody else think of the series?

Ive never read the books. So if based on the movies, Id say miss. The first 2 were complete crap and totally boring.. I only saw the first 40 minutes or so of part 3, thought it was better and then saw the first hour and a half of part 4, thought it was the best one yet.

I might read the books sometime though, HP nerds keep yelling at me all the time and its very upsetting.

I just mean the series in general. Though I was mainly thinking of the books, which are IMO much better than the movies.

The movies are very good, but clearly geared for children. A friend of mine begged me to read the books for like two years. I remember seeing bits and pieces of the first movie and I was like, "I ain't reading those fucking kids' books!" Eventually I found myself with nothing to read one day, so I gave in and read the first book.

I read that thing in about two days. Surprisingly, the books aren't so childish. They are young adult books, but more toward the adult end. Rowlings doesn't shy away from things like violence and death. After, I read the next three in about two or three weeks (wicked fast for me), then the fifth when it came out. I haven't read the sixth yet.

Regardless, they're great books, and the movies are very good. Big hit.

I haven't read them, nor intend to. But I encourage anything that gets people away from the xbox and into a book.

definite HIT!!

the movies are so-so compared to the books, but worth watching i guess.

the books themselves are great, i like all of them, although i think she could've done more with the 6th (but on the other hand it sets up an excellent 7th book). Order of the Phoenix is probably my favourite.

the whole "someone is going to die in the next book" thing is getting a bit annoying though.

the books were good, but the movies fuking ruined it. after the movies we got tradng cards, plastic figures, stickers, candy, all sorts of crap... and it was all little kiddies wishing they had magic wnads and who never even heard of Tolkien.

Its a hit, but there's no question that Rowling is completely overrated, that the series is really illogical and ill concieved (even for a children's series), and that I dislike Rowling personally.

The books are definitely pretty good, but they don't make my top ten list of favorite books. But, whenever I start reading the newest one I'm addicted to it and finish it in about a day or two...

As for the movies, I didn't think they were great, but not bad either...I'd put them in the "pretty good movie, especially for a rendition of a book" category. Am I the only one that thought the LotR movies sucked?

Lame :lame:

I felt kind of uncomfortable watching the first film because it was so cheesy. I read the first two books I think but stopped during the third.

I've read all the books because they're fucking addciting and I don't have that much available to read. But the movies were lame and the books are overrated. WAAYY overrated.

Hit. The books are fun and so are the movies.

I still need to get around to reading the 6th one, though.

nah it's a Stephen Colbert quote, and therefore higher than the truth.
