Post subject:  Metalhead prejudice

So I'm coming out of my favourite rock club night, and I'm waiting around for my ride, when I see some guys and a girl with extreme metal shirts and patches on. So I try and ask the guy what band is on his shirt, out of curiosity, and his mate laughs and makes a name up while this guy with the shirt just looks at me down his nose and says 'You wouldn't like them.' Now granted I'm wearing a suit jacket with my trillby hat and looking pretty swish, but this doesn't mean I don't know about metal. The guy walked off with his tr00 mates uttering something about getting in a fight with me and I just stood there fuming. About 20 minutes later I found them hanging near my mates car, so before I left I decided to tell them that just because I don't look metal doesn't mean I don't know anything about it, and they just started insulting me. Anyway, I called somone and they got what was coming to them...
But this wasn't the only time I've got shit from so called metalheads. Funnier still is that I chatted to some really friendly 'emos' about Glassjaw and other stuff earlier and everyone always complains about them!
I'm not sure if there's a point to this, other than that everyone getting so segregated into little music subcultures that there's even fashion regulations for fucking metallers...
God, I'm pissed off!

I saw a guy with a Darkthone shirt on when I was, like, 13/14-ish. So I was excited, and I said, "Darkthrone rules! :dio: " or something like that, and he just looks at me all O RLY? and says "You like that, don't you?" and I say "Yeah" and he just sighs and walks past me obviously pissed.

And I'm just sitting there like "wut da fuxman?"

That guy was obviously too kvlt for me and my youth.

Yep, it's not about the music, it's about the people.

Well with some people you just can't get along, so they can fuck off because there are still plenty of those that are nicer. No point taking pressures over it. Sure it gets you pissed when they treat you like shit but then you just give them what they're asking.

Well you can't help it. The world has always been about first impressions. They say don't judge a book by it's cover, but we always do....sadly I'm one of them, at times.

The only way you want people want to recognize a person from a certain genre or lifestyle, is through their dressings. I can't blame you for not looking metal, but neither can I blame them for being t00 metal. But you have to understand, those sop called tr00 kvlt asshole posers are the ones who go round wearing all those un-readable t-shirts just to show off that they're metalheads. I respect those un-metal looking fella's more than them. People like Siberian Dreamer. It's just like gangsterism here in Malaysia. The big mouthed cockers who brag about being some triad leader is always an idiot, a coward. But the real quiet, low profiled ones......well, let's not mess with them.

Well actually I don't have a conclusion for what I said, just telling my opinions. Frankly those guys who insulted you are posers IMO cos metalheads don't laugh or insult other metalheads. If they were true metalheads, they would have said "Vdsfgnfgthogrth (or some weird sounding BM name)! You heard of them?" Cos that's what I'l do.

I'd say:

"Let's get him guys" then my gang of monkeys would appear next to me and we'd slowly circle him brandishing weapons like sticks and knives whilst slowly whistling a sea shanty. Then we'd hold him down, rip of his shirt and force an old Torgiest shirt onto him whilst 4 of the monkeys do the YMCA dance spelling out KVLT.

I have short hair. Go to trendy New York Night-life locales. I say words like Locale. I have a full time job/career and am very well-read. I take pride that I am representing the clean shaven-well groomed metalhead sect. I see no need to prove my trueness by wearing black or only wearing band tshirts. I see nothing wrong with it, but I always felt that it is one of the reasons that metalheads get a bad rap. Of course, nobody looks down on the hip-hop crowd for dressing like 4-year old in their dads clothes, but thats another issue.

Anyway, dont let the dirty fucks get you down. You know what you listen too and you know who you are. Fuck them just as fast as you would say fuck it to the pop, rap, tecno, emo crowd. Stay fucking metal, and stay fuckin' showered.

Why in the fuck are you bothering people you don't know outside of a club in the first place, and then beating them up for not wanting to be your pal? You sound like an asshole yourself. Not everybody goes out looking for friends, dude. Get over it.

I'm sure it had less to do with what you where wearing, and more to do with the fact that you walked up to random people and said:"Hey guz!!! What you be wearin" I likes da Metal too, far out man!" People doing that shit to me annoys the fuck out of me. Just because I'm out in public and we may like the same music, that doesn't mean I want to talk to your ass.

idk man. I work at a convience store and every once in a while peopel will comment on a shirt or something that i am wearing and we get into conversations and what not.

I enjoy it and i see no reason that when two metal heads run into eachother they shouldn't shoot the shit about music.

of course at my job im alone for most of the night and i would talk to any one about anything

ha ha, i agree :D though, those people don't piss me off that much since it never happens, and those ppl who do ask me "what's on your shirt" i usually just reply ".. yes..." and then i turn my back. No point in telling anyway as ppl never will figure out who they are and what kind of music they make just by mentioning their name.

The ppl who pisses me off the most is regular ppl who wants to share their ignorance and prejudice with me. " your kind of music sounds like this.. bla bla" and when u try to correct them they just reply like " bla bla bla, i can't hear what you're saying, and i know more than you because i once heard Metallica and i also heard Satyricon when i was young".. not that i care that much about their opinion, but it is still very annoying when ppl think i want to hear their opinion based on ignorance.

sounds an awful lot like a desperate cry for attention and a need to be recognized as a metalhead, anyway.

Yeah that fucks me off. Like if someone calls a band or song Death Metal and I say its actually Black or Thrash or something I get the "yeah sure you and your genres." Really gets to me.
