Ok, my goal here is to play half-life 2 at a better quality than I am now. It runs on my laptop but the textures are pretty bland and there is next to no lighting effects.

My spec...
Intel Pentium Centrino (1.70 Ghz)
1 Gig ram

Yeah...thats about all I know, Im wondering if anybody can tell me what Im gonna need.

The bad visual effects probably means you lack a good enough video card.

Yeah you need to tell us which video card you own!
Just run
"dxdiag" and go to the visual window.
