there was a referendum here in Portugal today regading this subject, and people won't shut the hell up about it (despite the fact that only 30% of the registered voters actually exercised their right!), so i thought i'd ask what you guys think.

the question was the legalization of abortion in all cases (not just rape, fetus malformation, etc), up to the 10th week of pregnancy.
i say YES, in every case.
a big complaint from the NO crowd here was that legalization would lead to liberalization and that people would abort left and right. i don't think that'd happen, people understand that it's an extreme measure and only to be used as a last resort.
the biggest problem with both sides was that some considered the 10 week old fetus "alive" while others didn't, and imo that's the main reason why people rarely change opinions regarding abortion. to me, a 10 week old fetus simply isn't "alive" like you or me, and (as far as i know) it doesn't even have its own heart beating at that point. to me, considering an abortion at that stage murder is the same as saying that birth control pills = murder.
