Clara Rockmore was a friend of mr. Theremin himself, if I'm not mistaken. She played the early theremins, which had a highly nonlinear behavious and that made them very hard to play. Like on a violin, the performer must have an excellent ear for pitch and a memory for exact motions and positions, which is what makes this instrument extremely difficult to play. Clara Rockmore was a highly talented violin player before she dedicated herself to this instrument, it's really not recommended as a first instrument. I suggest getting "The Art Of The Theremin" album if you want to hear more by her. |

That's not surprising since air doesn't really have points of reference like frets or keys or buttons to guide you. |
