Still better than Kerrang though.

I never really bought Kerrang religiously like I do Metal Hammer (yeah, that bit WAS true), but I resigned never to buy Kerrang again years ago after I bought an issue that reviewed No Doubt's 'Ready Steady', gave it 4Ks out of 5, and they admitted that it was in no means rock or metal. Just to fuck me right off, they had an Eminem feature and they vindacated Eminem being 'Metal' for being mates with Marylin Manson at the time. Cunts.

After watching the Kerrang Music channel, I'd assume that they've now filled the gap left open by Smash Hits for the kiddie Teeny Boppers.

I hate Metal Hammer and Kerrang. Although Kerrang is really hard to resist sometimes just because a lot of the interviews are unintentionally hilarious. Metal Hammer thinks it's far more metal than it actually is, and I stopped reading when they gave the first Funeral for a Friend album 10/10.

Terrorizer is a good mag, even though the last time I picked it up Dragonforce won the end of the year poll. But that was voted for by the readers so I guess it's forgiven.

Terrorizer is by far the best metal mag, as It doesn't have some flavour of the month on the cover.

I didn't think any of those riffs were similar enough to be classified as plagarism.

Mayhem on most recent cover. Take that, Metal Hammer.

The first riff had the same notes as the ATG riff, but the rhythm was different. Basically a mutation of the ATG riff.

The second riff had a similar feel as the Kreator riff, but not similar enough to be considered a ripoff.

The third riff didn't sound like the Carcass riff at all.

Trivium still suck though.

I found the ATG one to be extremely similar- you could tell what it was going to be long before they flashed up Blinded by Fear. The other two are pretty tenuous though, I didn't hear too much similarity. There's only so many permutations you can get, anyway.

The ATG one seemed to have a more dynamic sound, but if you take where it was at the ned, i thought it sounded almost exactly the same.

The Kreator one seemed pretty dead on, Carcass too imo

I thought the Carcass one was the most telling just because both songs started with a drum solo and then went into nearly the same riff.

ATG was the only one that was close enough to be considered a rip-off, but I've heard both songs many times and never noticed the similarity...they do have different tempos.

And besides, I don't think the point means anything because there are tons of examples of songs with similar riffs.

When I was a teen I used to buy a mag called HM, which obviously stood for Heavy Metal. Then grunge became popular and HM was changed to mean Hard Music. Then I too used a magazine for toilet paper.

Yeah, both songs start with drums, then riff, then guitar melody on top of that. But the riffs aren't all that similar.
