Determination, an independent and enterprising mindset, and the will to beat the living hell out of an instrument. While these are facets of metal musicians that come to mind what are some artists of other musical disciplines that exhibit these qualities and could quite easily find himself or herself in a metal band. What subgenre do you see them honing a sound in, and is it entirely within the realm of possibility they could play the music?

Mozart, Beethoven and Chopin would be great metal musicians. Mozart in Power Metal, Beethoven in prog and Chopin in Black. Oh, and Wagner in Doooooooooooooom!

Wagner would do well in either black or doom IMO

Paganini in neo classical metal no doubt.

Ringo Star would be a sick thrash drummer.

Owen Brimley because of the guitar tone on Colour of Fire's album.

An album with Coltrane, Zappa and Hevy Devy would be great some psychedelic metaljazz good to listen on an acid trip.

Eric Nally of Foxy Shazam in a prog or power metal band.

Dave Grohl. I know he had this Probot project, but I'd love to see him put together a real band, without all those guest singers/musicians.

Plenty of Jazz and Prog Rock musicians - Miles Davis, Sun Ra, and the likes of Bill Laswell. Zappa's an obvious pick, Robert Fripp another, Bill Bruford!

All of them, considering Heavy Metal and Popular Rock (Pop/Rock) could be nearly impossible to tell apart if you printed off the sheet music for both and compared them.
