It's worth bringing up Jeff Loomis too. Dude's one of the cleanest soloists out there.

Chris Broderick too.

I have to concur with Lars Johansson. The guys is definitely one of my favourite guitarists of all time. I know that Leif is responsible for the riff/solo writing, but Lars is still one of the best guitarists out there as far as musicianship.

Also agree with K.K. Downing and Tony Iommi. Not really into many rock guitarists akin to Santana. I recognise their talent for sure, but as far as listening to their music it doesn't keep my interest. If we compare them to the usual metal shredders, I'll take the shredders every time. Again, not as a denial of talent but just personal preference and what keeps my interest. I'm kind of the reverse of noodles, while guitar played fast does not sound good to him, slower playing usually (though not always) does not really do it for me.

As far as I'm concerned, the solo parts in Candlemass are perhaps the best in all metal. They may not be the most technically impressive out there, but they're highly expressive, imaginative and memorable, and that's what matters for me.
