My lady friend just gave what I listen to a fair chance, and that is all I asked for. We share a few likes (grunge, NiN and such) and respect autonomy elsewhere. But we met discussing the television series Rome, and shared The Wire and Game of Thrones afterwards. And along the intersecting lines of history and drama, she's shown me stuff like 'I Claudius' and I made her rewatch old Bergman films.

The personal stories are related to illustrate that a connection doesn't have to be about metal, or even music in my case. A mature, consciously developed person will respond to tastes in similar people, or will at least respect their interest.

And DI, if you continue to have trouble finding girls with this understanding, look for women instead.

Yeah I can generally hold a conversation with anyone who cares about music, even if the genres they're into don't match up with mine at all.

(I meet girls with atypical cultural tastes all the time. I tend to assume it's because I'm in university.)

I have, and have been successful as well but that was a few years back. The problem lies in where you meet women. The school I go to does not have any of them so it is filled with many, many early 20's "girls" that I have not been very successful with. One of the women I met which we subsequently had sex was a University professor which we had some fun but ended very quickly. Another was someone that worked at a gym. She was hot but I didn't really follow up with her, either just because she had many men on her mind and where she worked she usually met a lot of men. So I was basically one among dozens of men that she met. I guess I could have taken a chance and called her more and you know... but I didn't. The passed has gone. I just have to wait and see what future either holds in place or it doesn't!
