Well checked these guys out of curiosity. Whole heap of Youtube clips from their more modern discography.

What crap. The pointlessly meander/plod for ever without getting anywhere.

The modern stuff reeks of modern Euro-guitar pop rock that they play at Eurovision. Except it's not even catchy and there's no hot chicks in sexy garb. Oh and there's some mindless prog bits as well. It's about as metal as a tree.

I suspect if they weren't from the Middle East, no-one would give a shit about them.

I'll now have to listen to some fucking real metal to wash this shit out,

+1 for the Mabool praise. Didn't think much of their last one though.

Agreed. Mabool was fine, their last one was not.

I just downloaded Mabool last night as my Original copy wont load for whatever reason. Great band in my opinion, though their older stuff is hard to find.

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned the greatness of El Norra Alila. More deathy than Mabool. I like both though.

Mabool is sick stuff.

But I'd barely classify them as metal, more so as prog.

I haven't listened to them much but I really like I've heard so far. I'll hopefully pick up their latest album soon.

Bad idea. Try Mabool or El Norra first. Trust me.

It's gotten pretty damn good reviews though (including a 91 from here). I get it if the consensus is that their previous albums are better but I don't see how it would a bad idea.

No. I don't see it as a "bad" idea, either. But to quite frank, Mabool has another level of depth and density to it compared to their latest offering. Their latest is much more simplified and ordinary compared to the aforementioned album. I would start with Mabool as well and then work my way to their latest offering.

Mabool was one of the albums I listened to several songs from. Pretty dull and wanky and meandering.

This is one of the metal albums that RYM people are like "omg greatest thing ever" but "real" metalheads, at the very least, don't go so crazy over or just don't like it. Disillusion also comes to mind. Nothing I've heard about this band really makes me want to check them out...
