Have we had this thread before?

Hypothetically, if you [were to] get high, what albums would you want to be listening to not because they are fun burn-out albums, like Cannabis Corpse or something, but albums that are fucking experiences? I'm thinking of like Dopethrone or even Earth's The Bees Made Honey in the Lion's Skull or possibly Tool.

If you want to get stoned and really feel the music, what albums are the ones to listen to?

I remember I made one of these threads several years back. In any case, getting stoned means hearing the most subtle details that one would not hear while sober. I used to listen to lots of Anthems To The Welkin At Dusk and Prometheus by Emperor. Windir (1184, Likferd), The Mantle by Agalloch, Doom: Vs, Colosseum from Finland, Winds from Norway, Check out Ultimae records for some advanced and intricate electronica (for example, James Murray, Sync24, Carbon Based Lifeforms, Aes Dana, Cell, Aura, Solar Fields, click on any album and you can sample them). Moonsorrow, Rotting Christ, Tangerine Dream, Newer Enslaved, Peccatum (Lost in Reverie and The Moribund People EP), Melechesh.

For me it's gotta be doom. World ending, skies falling, dooom. But it needs riffs, good riffs while high is like the greatest thing in the world.

But really, if you like it sober, you'll love it high.

Esoteric is one of those bands that you must experience their music (and reading their lyrics is obviously very helpful). It needs one's full attention. The attention will dramatically increase while being high. Esoteric is such a great band.

Check out:

Earthless - Rhythms from a Cosmic Sky or Sonic Prayer

Colour Haze, definitely

Boris Boris Boris. The next question is what kind of Boris. They have some great songs/albums to chill out to, but I might stay away from their drone work. Actually, if you're looking for an experience, you might as well put on Absolutego right now. For a more tranquil experience, listen to Flood.

Not metal:

I can't comment on their entirety of Funkadelic's output, but I can tell you that at least their early albums exude drugs. First album, first track:

Kind of Blue is also amazing while high.

I've got to run, but I can post more later.

I respectfully disagree with your opinion of getting stoned, but by all means support your ability to hold it. I also still believe that these two bands are well appreciated by being pretty high. Or at least are enhanced by being so. But whatever, dude.

I also recommend:

70s rock. If you can find it, check out the old thread on 70s bands for recommendations. In particular, look up Captain Beyond's first two albums, and Atomic Rooster's Death Walks Behind You has a stone fucking groove.

Similarly, have you listened to Jex Thoth? They are a contemporary band, but have a very 60s/70s vibe to their music.

Pure Reason Revolutions's The Dark Third. It gets very spacey and has great vocal harmonies.

Also, I've been listening to a lot of rap/hip-hop lately, and a bunch of stuff from that genre fits in this categoy. Look up MF Doom, he's consistent and his beats cater towards the high kid in all of us. Also, Dr. Dre's early-90s production jobs are solid, so check out his solo album the Chronic and Snoop Doggs's Doggystyle. It may seem like cliche stoner material, but I think they're worth checking out.

Also, if you're into electronic music, check out Astral Projection. They are a psychedelic trance band, and from what I've heard are pretty cool.

Shpongle are worth looking into, though they are pretty fucking weird, and are the only band that are reallly representative of what I would call "LSD music" as opposed to just "stoner music."

Music, as a whole, is generally better when you're stoned. It doesn't matter much what music you will play.

Someone's got to say this at some point, so here goes: you're all a bunch of hippies.

Namaste.

Cannabis Corpse should start a trend. An Emperor tribute called Hemperor, for example.
