Jason Mraz - We Sing...

This is almost a perfect pop album (no homo)

A collaboration not a split. Fucking post-rock squashed into Body's heavy as fuck doom and drone. It's fucking crazy awesome on first listen.

Imbroglio's Sleep Deprivation. Really sludgy mathcore. Kinda like Car Bomb meets Neurosis. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G3Up2Jy0ue0

Bergtatt is usually considered the classic in their back catalog, no? I think I like Nattens Madrigal much more. One of my punk friends just asked for black metal and death metal suggestions, I may have overwhelmed him but recommended this over Nattens. Unsure, though, if I made the right decision. I feel like Nattens is better structured where Bergtatt wanders and meanders kinda.

Yes, Bergtatt is considered a classic, and actually won our forum's favorite black metal album poll several years ago. It certainly does meander, but that never really bothered me, but by the same token, Bergtatt is not the type of album I think one could listen to on repeat.

I think with Ulver it is hard to divorce any of their first 3 albums from the others. Bergtatt, Kveldsanger, and Nattens all seem to be shades of the same remarkable take Ulver had on that style of music.

Nattens always seemed different to me than those first three but I never listened to tons of Ulver in a single span to be able to compare properly if that makes any sense. Nattens always just stood out to me, who knows, it was probably the first of theirs I had checked out.

Someone described this as Entombedcore. It's basically sickass death metal riffs in hardcore format. Todd Jones (Terror, Carry On) is kinda a badass on this. Fans of Enabler, All Pigs Must Die, Trap Them, Masakari, Cursed need to know this band.

Nails' preceding EP. First listen and just as sick it appears.

Jesus, shit is just as heavy as their full LP. The breakdowns chug in the best way possible: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y8MikFYv7_w

Cursed's I. Never heard them before but last.fm keeps telling me I'll love them given Nails and Trap Them fandom. Ears are starting to bleed so unsure how long I can keep this playing, need to get back to the melancholic. It is sounding solid so far.

Riffs seem like Nails' yet not as distorted and heavy which is pretty sweet.

Turning it down a notch with Gris. Masterpiece of somber black metal, is it considered depressive bm? Perfect atmosphere and composition yet the production has just a bit too much feedback I think.

Love the thrash riff on Hillgiant Witch. These guys plays a really noisy, black metal-influenced variant on hardcore. Excellent vocals over top solid riffs and snappy drumming. Sometimes they are labeled powerviolence but that's totally fucking stupid insofar as they don't play fast and don't have short songs. They went on to become Book of Black Earth, which is kinda a sucky death metal band, but this is quality stuff.

Baltimore hardcore in the vein of TUI. Sweet EP.

I've been meaning to check out Cursed for years. Book of Black Earth's first album is cool imo. So is Teen Cthulu.

np: Witch Mountain - South of Salem

When I saw the artwork, I couldn't resist sampling it.
It's actually pretty good blackened folk/prog metal.
