My list:

-Megadeth (sorry, but I think Mustaine has an incredibly crappy voice.)
-Anthrax
-Testament
-Nirvana (can't stand the whining)
-Angra
-Falconer
-Rhapsody
-Tad Morose

Both great bands in my eyes :dio:

And i dont think Tad Morose is a band that everyone loves they're way underrated.

Am I really the only one who loves Rhapsody, Hammerfall, and whatever other cheese-ridden PM you care to mention? It's the cheesiness that does it for me, has completely the opposite atmosphere to Black Metal. It's like trying to deny that smoking causes health problems, is listening to non-cheesy Power Metal.

1.) Cannibal Corpse: Yeah, we get it guys. You can play your instruments all fast-like, and you like blood, corpses, and kicking puppies. What else do ya got?

2.) Cradle of Filth: Technically it's not "everyone else" that seems to love them, per say, but I think their fanbase far outweighs their consistency. Oh, and as has been already been stated numerous times, Dani Filth possesses absolutely atrocious vocals.

3.) The Black Dahlia Murder: I suppose I should be slavering over this band. "At the Gates-style melodeath with even crazier tempos and alternation between screams and growls" is an idea that sounds great on paper. But they just seem too cold and calculated for me, specifically on Nocturnal.

4.) Iced Earth: I hate to use any one band as a whipping boy for my general dislike of power metal, but if I have to, then it should be these guys.

5.) AC/DC: Since they clearly had no songwriting ability, their solution was to inject each dull and sluggish song they played with lyrics about partying, booze, chicks, and Hell. The end result is some of the most overrated metal ever created, at least in my mind.

6.) Dragonforce: You have to appreciate Mr. Herman Li for his technical skills, but when every single song (with few exceptions) has to smash their "extreme" play-style and "epic" lyrics into our faces, that appreciation fades. Very lazy songwriters, in my opinion.

(I'm sure I'll think of more with time)

AC/DC is metal????

No. But they, Deep Purple, and Led Zeppelin are probably the three most over-covered classic rock bands in all of metal.

Anthrax are a good place to start, I've liked some of their stuff but never seen why they deserve the 'Big Four' kudos as opposed to, say, Testament or Exodus, both of whom Thrash far better...

GWAR! Maybe I've not got the joke yet, but they don't seem that special.

3 Inches Of Blood - seriously, hardcore plus power metal. :P

The Big 4 was in terms of success.

GWAR can ONLY be appreciated live.

I dunno about 3 Inches, I'm stuck on em.

I dunno why I picked on you Zad, but it only seemed appropriate.

And Pantera fucking rule.

Well, like I said, dunno why Anthrax deserved more success than the others.

If it's only good when you're getting sprayed with fake cum, there must be something wrong with it.

You really have to be there to understand why you find yourself cheering at a giant penis.

+1!!!

I love GWAR and it all came from seeing them live. I've seen them the last four times they've been to the UK (which works out 4 times in the last 10-12 years as they're so shy to come to this country!!)

As for the topic...

Dream Theatre - I've tried so hard to like them, but just can't seem to rate them. I've seen them live twice and even have several of their albums. It plain baffles me!

Apart from the 95% of the Nu-metal/metalcore chart bothering types of today and about 80% of 80s Glam Metal, I can't think of a band that I dislike!!!

By new you mean, the really new one? Because I doubt many people love it. (I hope)

It's not a great album but I personally feel if they perfect the whole black and roll thing ( Like... Fuel For Hatred ) they'd have a really badass thing going.

We'll see what happens with the next album.

You mean the sort of Black 'n' Roll Darkthrone does so much better?

Despite this sarcasm, my point still stands. Why wait for Satyricon to reinvent the wheel?

I don't enjoy Darkthrone.

I'm not a die hard Satyricon fan either... I have Rebel Extravaganza, Volcano and I DL'ed K.I.N.G... I'm just curious what is going to happen the next time around or if it's going to remain mediocre.

Dark Medieval Times, Nemesis Divina. That's all you really need from them.

I actually find The Shadowthrone their best album.

Same here.
Though my all time favorite Satyricon track is Walk The Path of Sorrow.
Nemesis Divina only has a couple of tracks I care for.

I don't hate any metal bands, there are many popular ones I just can't get into:

Slayer - just doesn't do it for me
Megadeth - while many thought the new album was the album of 2007, I couldn't get into it
Rhapsody - a band I can only take in small doses
Goth Metal bands - a metal sub-genre that just doesn't click with me
Dragonforce - another I can tolerate in limited quantity, just a little to "thin" for me

On the other hand, I'll take all the Jag Panzer, Paragon, Amon Amarth, Brainstorm, Threshold, and Iron Maiden I can get my hands on...
