Is there really a quantifiable difference between "deathcore" and death metal? I dun think so.
Hmm this reiterates Legacy's point but deathcore generally has really stale and tedious breakdowns and generic, boring vocals with no dynamics. Bands like Whitechapel sounded like a mediocre yet acceptable death band till the one minute dull, chugging breakdown which made me turn it off.
And maybe I'll be checking out Glass Casket.
Not to be an ass, but by using words like "stale", "tedious", "generic", and "boring", you're making a subjective point and not quantifiable, like I said.
Zad, you don't really answer the question...
Legacy makes a better point with the pig squeals. Although tons of death metal bands have breakdowns. But according to that criterion !T.O.O.H.! could be a deathcore band. Maybe they are o_0
In my opinion, deathcore is just a title we give to death metal bands who we don't like...for example: new Cryptopsy.
Nah... there is a very definate style to deathcore, and maybe you have to listen to lots of the new, cloned bands to see it (I check a lot of bands out based on magazine reviews and am getting sick of that sound) but there are some good bands. I personally like eg Despised Icon, but not the likes of Job For A Cowboy. It all comes down to taste. The point I was trying to make above, heato, was that compared to old school, 'proper' DM bands, deathcore is pretty different. Ultimately, they're all just ripping Suffocation off and adding breakdowns, and as much as I love the suffo, too much is too much.
