Ok so heres my concert from last night breakdown:
First off, Mantic Rituals bass player didn't wash his hands after he took a piss. I know because he took a piss right beside me and when I was washing my hands, he just looked at me and left the bathroom. But I should't have been so surprised, his hair was disgustingly greasy.
If you don't know about Mantic Ritual (Meltdown) they are a young thrash band from Pittsburgh. The sticker on their album says for fans of old Metallica, Dark Angel, and Sepultura. Now, IMO replace Dark Angel with Destruction and Sepultura with Exodus and that sounds more right.
Live they were awesome. Musically it's one of those been there done that type bands that are popping up everywhere, but live man oh man were they awesome. So much energy, and they extended every song by about a minute or to just to get some extra jamming in. Plus they sped their songs up to, which made them all the more moshable. And that youthfal enthusiasm has never been more present. The energy they let off was awesome, but it was mostly the singer/guitar player. He was jumping around and getting right up close an personal with the audience. But he never really left the middle of the stage. The place went nuts when the started playing Venoms song Black Metal. Everybody was singing along, me included.
Next up was Krisiun. I don't know a lot of their material (I only have 1 album, AssassiNation). They only did maybe 2 or 3 songs I knew, which kinda took me out of it. At least I knew all the Mantic Ritual songs. But still Krisiun put on one hell of a show, although dull because the singer/bass player stayed to the far right (his left) and the guitar player stayed to the far left (his right, right in front of me). Either than changing their poses up, they never really moved. But one thing is for sure, they were really grateful to the fans. He kept saying over and over again how it's because of us that we are here, and how awesome we are, which was cool.
While wating for Destruction, my sworn enemy appeared on stage. Anybody who has me on facebook can see him as the Fattest Drum Tech Ever. When I went to Heavy MTL the drum tech for Overkill was huge, and he took literally 45 minutes to get the drums right. And now he was back, this time ruining it for the people of Toronto. Thankfully he didn't take very long this time, 5 minutes at the most. But I did get a picture of the asshole.
So the lights dimmed and on came Destruction. The place went nuts, as expected. They openend with Bestial Invasion and followed that up with a new one in D.E.V.O.L.U.T.I.O.N..
Entire set list here:
and yes they were in the mood...in case you were wondering.
I don't know what else to say. They were by far one of the best bands I have ever seen live. Last time I saw them they had technical issues, what else is new, and had to cut the set list short, so this show was a dream. If you are the slightest Destruction fan and have never seen them, then I strongly urge you to do so. Schmier is awesome and Mike is funny as hell. Plus Marcs drum solos are pretty decent.
But the best part of the night for me was my meet and great with Schmier. It was short, but oh so awesome. He started off by making fun of french people, then said how much Heiniken sucks (i agree). Unfortunately for them it's the only beer they were getting for free. He complained a little from being hung-over from drinking with Krisiun the night before. He asked me if there was any special song requests I wanted, I said I wanted to hear Thrash Attack. He thought I said Thrash til Death, so he was like "That's already on the list." I said "No, Thrash Attack." he said "Oh, Thrash Attack. No, maybe next time." That always mean no...

I then asked him about the Sodom thing, and he just replied with a no comment and walked away. I was a little upset that I had ruined our convo, but still I got to talk to him and that was awesome... Just before Total Desaster he was saying that this is our last song for the night and that it was the first ever Destruction song. I yelled Total Desaster. He looked at me and said "What?" so I yelled again, Total Desaster, he looked at me again and said "What?!?" so I yelled again, but before I could get it out he lowered the mic stand so I could yell into it "TOTAL DESASTER!" then the intro came on, and one of the best german thrash songs of all time was played right before my eyes, and I got to introduce it. I nearly fainted.
Kreator and Exodus in a month...
