It was totally more than worth it!!! I'm actually blown away. You guys in Europe and America are so spoiled for live shows we must only be thankful for the few bands that visit our shores. And yeah, Master of Puppets was amazing, as was Leper Messiah. They didn't play one St Anger or Death Magnetic song. Only the classics.
Just out of curiosity, how often do you get to see shows? I can't imagine that many death metal bands, or any band that wasn't huge in the 80s could afford to stop in South Africa. But Africa has some pretty decent regional acts and so I was wondering if maybe they toured.

We don't get to see many heavy bands here. Very few death metal acts come over. Last year Fleshgod Apocalypse was here, but thats about it. Saturday night Every Time I Die will be playing here, so maybe that will be cool...

I saw Metallica for the second night in a row last night. A totally different set that the previous night. Highlights were Sanitarium, Battery and Shortest Straw.

You don't see Sabbath for Ozzy, you go for Iommi. He is Black Sabbath.
North American tour dates were released and so I was nearly going to have to post in this thread with my tail between my legs because I would have dropped the hundred bucks to see them... Then Summer Slaughter dates were released and their Northern Virginia date is that same Friday so I'm totally going to go bust skulls to Cattle Decap and DEP rather than cringe at Ozzy's high notes.

Seeing El Jinete today, apparently it is a "mariachi opera". Sounds exciting.

Saw Anciients, Exhumed, Death last night.

Anciients is simply boring. They're really great musicians, but they can't/don't write hooks. I definitely see the Mastodon comparison now that Zad mentioned it.

Exhumed are a bunch of old dudes and they're playing their old death metal and having a blast, but I thought it was super boring. Needed more breakdowns. I got splattered by green sugar paste at the end and so wasn't happy about that. They do the same shtick that they've probably done for 25 years and that's cool, but not my thing.

Death was awesome. The kid who is filling in for Chuck is fucking amazing. He looks stiff on stage, but he hits the vocals perfectly and is playing is pretty solid. Masdival took over most of the ridiculous moments in tracks, but the kid was solid. DiGorgio, Reinert, Masdival were all having a blast. When did Masdival become Pucciato lite? I had a great time and it was kind of a dream come true insofar as I never imagined hearing those songs live ever. When I was sixteen and first heard Death, I had already been too late for the party but here it was. Pull the Plug for an encore was sick.

Amazing show! I got goosebumps more than once. No Exhumed for us though, thy couldn't get across the border and neither could Deaths drummer, but they got the guy from Malevolent Creation to fill in and he did a wonderful job. All in all the best show I've been to since Obituary came to town about 7 years ago.

Yeah, Exhumed was supposed to be on tour with Suffo, but couldn't get across the border. The guy from Malevolent Creation stepped in for song at my show. He was solid, I guess. Definitely was focusing in a way that Reinert didn't have to.

I got chills when I yelled out Baptized in Blood, and then they started playing Baptized in Blood. I was just yelling out songs from Scream Bloody Gore, Baptized was the first that came to mind and then they started playing it. Like I've got ESPN or something.

Went to a friend's graduation recital, she's a mezzo soprano and sang stuff by Handel, Bach, Rossini, Messiaen, and Ravel. All of it was super cool, especially this:

I like Handel a lot too. He reminds me of Christmas carols and I love christmas carols.

Black Sabbath were AMAZING!!! I've never, EVER, heard them that heavy before. Ozzy didn't disgrace the classic material which was a nice surprise and actually other then his fan interaction which was incoherent as ever he was actually really good. Wish they'd played Sabbath Bloody Sabbath but I'm content with War Pigs, Into The Void, Children Of The Grave, Symptom Of The Universe, Fairies Wear Boots, Black Sabbath, N.I.B, Snowblind etc

Saw Woe on Sunday night. It was fucking ridiculous. They didn't sound like the atmospheric USBM on the album, but instead were just straight ripping. Sounded more like a thrashy Absu than anything they normally do. Covered Aus-Rotten's Fuck Nazi Sympathy. My hardcore buddies bum-rushed the stage and stole the mic for the chorus and the lead singer just kept giving it back to them every time they thought they were through. Prior to the show, I smoked weed with the bassist and lead guitar. Rolled a joint in the van and took around Covington smoking it. Was fucking awesome. The bassist is seriously done with music so don't be surprised when he quits to get his master's in geology. Just sayin'.
