Rush were great! Had a string ensemble for the new stuff, did lots of 80s stuff, finished on (the first two bits and end of) 2112. Three and a half hours of fun.

Death Grips was fucking amazing last night. It was weird for MC Ride to be performing for a room full of white teenagers, but I also kinda think that is their demographic. If the crowd was better, it would have been one of the most awesome shows that I had ever been to. Dude is an amazing performer. The drummer wasn't there so it was definitely more like a techno-dub show; they played drum tracks, but stayed away from songs with more drums.

In case, y'all don't know Death Grips, experimental noise/hip hop/punk:

Baroness tonight.

Saw Baroness last week. The live sound was surprisingly heavy. And fucking awesome. Baizley hobbles around after the crash like a metal Dr. House, but whatever. The dude still has the talent. Fucking amazing show.

Got tickets in the mail for Summer Slaughter, hoping that Dillinger doesn't cancel. Bought tickets for the GWAR-B-Q, which will be Gwar, Pig Destroyer, Municipal Waste, Mobile Deathcamp and some others down in Richmond at a water park. Hoping to score tickets to see Anselmo, Warbeast and Author & Punisher in August.

I was able to see Katatonia and Opeth when they came through Raleigh, NC a little while ago. Both bands were impressive as hell! It was a great show from beginning to end and my only complaint would be that Katatonia didn't get enough time on stage. Despite that both bands sounded perfect...absolutely perfect.

Going to Ottawa (about 5 hours drive east of me) to see Annihilator this Saturday. Their only show in Canada before the tour Europe for the new album. Get to have dinner and drinks with Jeff and Dave and listen to Feast (their new album) before the concert. Will be awesome.

The GWAR-B-Q was fucking awesome last weekend. Got proper drunk and high out in the field whilst Cannabis Corpse played so missed that. Had drove down with three friends to Richmond, one dude was into metal like me, but the other two were familiar but not fans by any means.

Walked in to see Corrosion of Conformity tear it up. They played Mad World, Vote with a Bullet and another track from Blind. Thoroughly enjoyed that. They were just having quite a bit of fun up on stage.

Next was Battlecross on the second stage, which was a tiny ass picnic pavilion that bands played under. Dudes were young and were a fucking blast. Awesome pit, great tunes and ended with a cover of Fucking Hostile. Everyone seemed to enjoy it.

MuniWaste played next at the main stage. Their tunes generally sucked, but the energy was awesome and there was a huge pit. For Iron Reagan having some awesome songs, I'm unsure how Waste can suck so bad.

Then Pig Destroyer played. I left Waste a few minutes early to get in the middle of the crowd at the second stage. Under the fucking picnic pavilion. The stage was basically two steps up of boards. People lined up respectfully in front of it till the music played. Then the frenzy erupted.

Here is me at the front of the melee, holding my own against people shoving from behind:
Image

Here is a video of me tumbling over the crowd in the khaki shorts: http://instagram.com/p/dIS4d0RV_B/#

They played a lot of tracks from Book Burner, definitely Bug and Diplomat. But they closed with Hyperviolet and Cheerleader Corpses. Twas sick. People convinced them to do an encore. The entire stage was packed with people. At one point, Hull told me to make sure nobody bumped him. He gave me a thanks and a handshake after the set and said my ANb shirt was awesome.

Finally, GWAR played. I was pretty fucking broken from the previous set, but headed up to the front anyways. It was squeezed tight. Blood started spewing out when they brought a creepy priest guy out on stage. They put an axe in his head, then bent him over and shoved his cross up his ass. After a few songs, I was over the fucking crowd shoving and I got my share of green jizz and red red kroovy so I crowdsurfed over the barrier to get out. They brought a crucified Jesus out and finished putting the nails in his hands and ankles. Then chopped off his limbs, hacked off his torso and cut his face off, leaving this mass of muscle screaming in between songs as I look over and see a father lifting his five year old daughter on to his shoulders. They brought some babies out and raped them. They brought out some old band members, one dude with a buzzsaw. Their set ended with an encore in which they brought out Obama and decapitated him after some racist banter.

Trying to decide whether to pay £30 for Paradise Lost/Katatonia/Lacuna Coil this weekend. I like PL, indifferent about Katatonia and a big fat meh to LC...

I'd only consider going for PL as well, but would definitely pass on that one. You like them a bit more than me though.

That. If it's an either/or situation, most definitely choose DEP. For serious. No joking. No debate.

Saw Watain/Tribulation/In Solitude on Sunday. Shit was fucking awesome.

I got some free beers so I was stoked, once Watain went on I knew there entire set and I was just rocking out.

Best performance i've seen from Watain. In the past it had always seemed like something was maybe "missing" from their live show but not this time. They just rocked the house for me. !!!!!!!!!

Just ordered my $80 VIP ticket for Kreator, Overkill and Warbringer for this Sunday. Will be my 5th or 6th time seeing Kreator, 3rd for Overkill, and 4-5th for Warbringer. It'll be my second time actually getting to meet Overkill. Should be good times.

Forgot about DEP in the end so missed them. :(
Have just got a ticket for Alice in Chains / Ghost on Monday, though, quite looking forward to that.

Absu cancelled for a show in Calgary. I envy you, sir.
