Friends and I are shooting messages back and forth on Facebook about whether or not to see BTBAM, Deafheaven, and Intronaut in a month. We have one friend who likes Deafheaven and I don't mind them, but once I sent everybody the video that Steve posted months ago we have just began bashing Deafheaven. I feel bad now. Like really, I would want to hear Intronaut be heavy as fuck, tolerate Deafheaven's set, then hear BTBAM play White Walls and leave. But that won't probably happen.

Them playing at a high school it looks like. Roads to Judah was so good. Why do they have to be such tools?

I never realized hipsters were such a bad thing until coming to Montreal. Hipster crowds are the worst. I go to a funk show, they sit/stand and stare. I go to a metal show, they sit/stand and stare. I go to a punk show, they sit/stand and stare. wtf people

I saw Neurosis and GYBE Saturday it was good but suffered from liking the opening band way more than the main band syndrome. They played for a good hour tho so all good.

Stand and stare would be acceptable at many doom metal concerts, so maybe hipsters need to get into doom metal instead of this faster stuff!

Noodz, what was the Neurosis setlist? Mostly recent material?

Yeah. I think half the songs were from Given to the Rising? Mostly newer stuff, although they also played Locust Star and Bleeding the Pigs. I was expecting more of the new album, but I don't know it very well so I'm not disappointed they didn't dip into it much.

What else would you do at shows? I've been pondering this hard. At grind shows, you mosh, but at most other concerts I just kinda stand and stare. I guess I bang my head.

Thanks Noodles, I figure that Locust Star/Doorway are the standard older songs they do play at sets these days, and maybe Given to the Rising is favored as their most popular newer album.

Yeah, my impression is that head banging was favored in most European black/death metal shows, and in doom metal it seems to be the really slow headbang or just the stand+stare. I think the States shows are a bit different though, because most shows would book at least one grind/deathcore whatever type band where heavy movement was encouraged or expected.

Nice I missed them when they came through in November because The Fugitives played the same night. Except this time they're not playing Montreal >:[ (Laval's p close though, edit: I can take the subway there. I get to go to ~the end of the line~)

All of my concerts are at the end of the line. And I'm on the other end of the line :(

That Deafheaven video was taken at a beatdown/modern hardcore style fest.

Its pretty obvious their music would be met with scorn, that and no one could appreciate the band's sheer aural power and would rather hear simpleton hardcore. What a bunch of cretins, Deafheaven are the way of the future.

couldn't care less about them being tools or whatever but i listened to the first 4 minutes and i wasn't into the music.

seemed pretty generic spacey metal shit with screeching vocals. :\
