I've never really gotten a "how could you like such dumb music". More along the lines of a "nice guys don't like such mean music...? ".

I seriously wonder when people will realize there's probably more immorality in the rap/hip-hop scene than in the metal scene.

For the most part I agree with you. Just hope they don't find out about how misogynist death metal can be at times.

Not just death metal... It's a sorry world we live in when we can no longer turn to the porno-grind scene for moral guidance.

Oh and I don't often hear stupid things about metal, but one time a friend's girlfriend told me something bog-standard along the lines of "it's all screamy rubbish" or whatever, and I'm ashamed to say my usually impermeable aura of politeness and civility slipped momentarily and I upset her. Later I found my friend in a terrible state, because apparently she'd been screaming at him and demanding he beat me up on her behalf, which he had failed to do.

I don't think I've spoken to them since then, hardly, and this was about 2 years ago now. I lost an old friend over that little incident...

Oh, but I hear stupid things concerning music in general. A friend of mine just last night told me he had got a ticket to go and see the greatest show of our time: Jeff Wayne's Musical Version of the War of the Worlds, for about £45 ($90+). I told him, "I didn't know you were into prog-rock", and it turns out he hadn't realised that there was music in it at all, and now he's flat out refusing to go and trying to sell the ticket. Because prog is against his principles, or something

This guy is really clever but he has some utterly ridiculous music opinions.

I've stopped showing people music in general. A lot of them just don't understand it, simply put.

Unless they ask, I don't usually mention that I'm into metal.

But I also don't like when people assume that I know every mainstream song, I've lost contact with the mainstream music world about 3 years ago, haha.

By screaming shit, do you mean black/death stuff? Are you more of a power metal fan or something. What's your favorite types of metal Cara? I'm just curious...........

I hate when i play non-metal music and people go "Why are you listening to this? It's normal music."

And i'm talking classical or post rock. Pisses me off to no end. Metal isn't my wife, i'm not married to it.

Usually i reply "I like any music as long as it's good." Usually shuts people up. lol

My dad is def the worst. I mean yesterday i was listening to Psycroptic full volume he came into my room and started "growling" trying to imitate in a sarcastic way the singer. It really pissed me off.

I've reached a point in my life where discussing other people's criticisms of metal or giving in to any attempt to convert them is just futile. I just find that if they're that ignorant then i want nothing to do with them anyway. Music means so much to me, if I have to continually deal with a barrage of shit comments about what I love to listen to and play, then I don't need these ignorant lost people in my life.

I just laugh now and wish them the best with their life.
