i ripped stuff in lossless for a while but it made my iPod's memory disappear really fast so now i'm slowly converting it all back to 192kbps. i only listened to it on my ipod or as background music so i never noticed the difference.

Thanks, now I can listen to the version of Savatage's Streets that I downloaded ^^ Fantastic CD, I think I'll burn a copy for my bandmembers... Don't think they've heard it :omfg:

After, force them to listen Hall of the Mountain King, Gutter Ballet & The Dungeons are Calling. (And HotMK is here as a classic, but we need more Savatage reviews :) )

Back in, I'm sure I posted something in the "how are you feeling" thread. Basically we talked it over and decided that I just have to reach a higher level of technical proficiency, which is why I'm practicing my ass off and abandoning almost all other pursuits.

I can't see the point of iTunes, personally. Apple are bastards to make you use it when with my Sony player I can either drag-and-drop or sync with WMP. And ripping everything at the highest setting AND only having 8GB of memory on my player still gives me more than enough space for more music than I need.

You can get special programs for converting WMA to MP3, Fridge, have a google.

Itunes should do that automatically if you add the file to your library. Depending on the settings you made, which is here:

Go EDIT>General>Import Settings. You can then have it set to encode files either MP3, AAC, AIFF, WAV, or lossless, and choose the bitrate. Defaults here are 128, 160, and 192, but if you click 'custom' you'll be able to go up to 320kbs.

And you can change any files already in the library by right clicking and going "Create (whatever chosen encoder is) version"

Although if you don't trust itunes with giving you decent sound quality, then just google, theres plenty of other encoding programs that'll do it.

Exactly! I use a Mac at the office and all my music are played using iTunes. It looks cool, yeah no doubt about it. But I fucking hate it when I load my songs to the library. Sometimes a few songs of the album are separated because of a minor tweak in the info, and when I try to recalibrate to make it into 1 album, it doesn't. Heck, I even cleared all the info and re-typed and it still doesn't work! For instance, I don't know why but my Siksa Kubur's 'Carnage' album is split into four! It's just a pain.

And sometimes I make a compilation of my favorite songs and take it to the office and WALLA! Everything's split up! All I wanted to do is listen to the stuff on that particular folder and I can't. I have to create a playlist just to listen to it.

Having lesser bitrate helps save a lot of disk-space, but the quality is compromised. I don't complain about it cos hey, if I wanted to listen to something's that's crystal clear, I'll just dump the CD into my stereo. As it is I download quite a lot and feel bad about it so it's unjust if I were to bitch about it. 128 and 192 is good enough for me to enjoy good music. I don't need anything higher, it's not like I'm gonna write a thesis on it anyway.

I generally just shoot for 192 or better. Don't do any of my own ripping.
