people actually don't like SLough Feg?

srsly?

Respect and admire? Sure.

Not enjoy listening to? Guilty as charged.

how are they not enjoyable?

I find their non-lead parts boring?!

didn't know that was possible

then again you hate most things related to "old-school" so I guess I can understand why you find this boring

I'm still baffled.

Well, I've only heard 'Down among the Deadmen' because I heard it was their best. Is another more accessible album perhaps?

I do want to like them, truly.

I am still a Slough Feg noob. But I really enjoy their self titled debut.

the opening song alone should get your blood pumping

Ok. Will try.

I'm not giving up on them, because I love their lead guitars, but yeah, I have to work more at liking 'old school'.

You might like Hammers of Misfortune - The Bastard more it has like black metal bits. And then when you fall in love with Mike Scalzi you will be like damn Slough Feg are the best why doesn't he sing on everything

They have a new album coming out next year too, apparently, although there is less solid news about that.

I don't love Down Among the Deadmen. Traveler is my favorite then Atavism but it has a lotta interludes which take away from Scalzi being epic.

Thanks for the advice guys.

I'm liking Traveller's production better. I think I will try that one (and Hammers).

For some reason people who heard Slough Feg first seem to say this and it makes me sad.

Early stuff from both bands took me a while to get into because of the production but now I don't mind it at all.

I don't dislike SF at all really... it's just that the prospect of another album by them in 12 months time or something was something I found hard to get super excited about. Certainly a good band but I prefer HoM.

I've only heard Ape Uprising and Atavism and I'm enjoying the hell out of them.

Man, I have always wondered how you're holding up. I mean, you're basically only listen to mediocre bands :P

I've never heard Slough Feg, what bands do they immediately sound like?

Nobody?

Think 80s metal mixed with folky stuff and all kinds of epic.

I've only heard the stuff on the links posted above. (from the album Traveller)

It's basically 1980's Heavy Metal. It reminded me of a more mature Manowar or later day Saxon or 1990's Jag Panzer.

Apparently the earlier stuff is more weird with Celtic influences but I have not heard of it.

Yes.

Also all their albums have Celtic influence. I think the only trend through their discography is getting a bit less aggressive.
