Yeah... Dark Tranquillity up to "Damage Done" were very good. But after that they became a bit repetitive; they're still a decent band although "We Are The Void" was very commercial sounding.
we are the void was in no way commercial.... we're definitely not hearing the same thing. If DT has a commercial album it has to be Damage Done.
It's got th uber slick production and the perfect catchy guitar riffs all over the place and is not as harsh as any of the other albums. Character was a great change in contrast as it brought back the heaviness and harshness of early DT.
Yes... to be quite frank with you I gave We Are the Void 2 or 3 spins and usually by that time I can decide if I like an album or not. I personally think it's their most straight forward release do date. I highly disagree that Damage Done was commercial sounding because it was one their most well composed albums do date and I think a lot people agree with me on that. I also agree that Character brought back the more heavy and aggressive material but it does get a bit repetitive after while. You see I have to go back and re-listen to last 2 Dark Tranquillity albums to give you my precise opinion. From the impression those albums have had on me they get an above 85/100 mark even though they might sound somewhat repetitive after a while. Damage Done has stood the test of time for me.
That's quite funny cause I got kindda fed up of Damage Done cause I found it to be too straightforward, not enough layers or complexity. Which was quite the opposite with Character, Fiction and We are the Void. We are the void had much less immediate impact than damage done but with replays We are the void grew on me and revealed lots more of it's intricacies.
out of all DT albums The Gallery, Haven and Character are the ones that get the most plays from me.
