Katatonia-Dance of December Souls

It still sounds as fresh and innovative today as it would have 14 years ago when it came out, or 6 years ago when I bought it. Some then argued that it was a ripoff of Paradise Lost's Gothic, but they couldn't have been more wrong. Blackheim's guitarwork on DoDS surpasses all the world's shredding, and the production was more perfect for the music than anything I have heard since. If "Tomb of Insomnia"or "Gateways of Bereavement" doesn't get your spine-tingling you must not have a pulse.

Fuck Jonas Renkse for calling this album garbage and turning Katatonia into shit.

Death - Symbolic
Immortal - Sons of Northern Darkness
Mastodon - Blood Mountain
Metallica - Kill 'em All

Don't really know what you folks mean by Earh Shattering, but these albums give me "that" feeling. :dio:

I figure this album deserves a mention here, not because its particularly amazing (although it always puts me in a relaxed, good mood when I listen to it), but because it basically broke me out of the metal shell when I heard it for the second time around a year ago (the first time I heard it I thought it was lame emo). It made me realize that theres more to music than being aggressive, heavy and/or epic, and let me appreciate a lot of stuff I otherwise wouldn't have, so it also has a pretty big place in shaping my taste in music.

Indeed... Although their cover of Saint Vitus' Born too Late is not only embarrassing, but a fucking travesty to a metal classic. This should of course be punished by barbed wire and sulphuric acid in teh peehole...

Restricted to metal. These aren't all albums which I necessarily think are the band's best; they're just the ones that impacted the metal scene the most.

Black Sabbath- Black Sabbath
Judas Priest- Sad Wings of Destiny/Unleashed in the East- later, Painkiller
Diamond Head- Lightning to the Nations
Iron Maiden- Number of the Beast
Helloween- Walls of Jericho/Keeper of the Seven Keys Part II
Metallica- Kill'Em All/Master of Puppets
Megadeth- Peace Sells... But Who's Buying?
Exodus- Bonded by Blood
Sodom- In the Sign of Evil/Obsessed by Cruelty
Kreator- Pleasure to Kill
Slayer- Reign in Blood
Possessed- Seven Churches

And now, groundbreaking albums for me:

Judas Priest- Stained Class, Painkiller
Exodus- Bonded by Blood
Kreator- Coma of Souls
Megadeth- Rust in Peace
Iron Maiden- Powerslave
Blind Guardian- Nightfall in Middle Earth
Manticora- Hyperion
Shadows Fall- The Art of Balance (say as you will about Shadows Fall, they completely got me into metal and I still do love them)
Satan- Court in the Act
Cloven Hoof- A Sultan's Ransom (incidentally, my copy of this was stolen.. would anyone mind uploading it?)
Queensryche- Operation Mindcrime
Overkill- The Years of Decay
Mekong Delta- Dances of Death (And Other Walking Shadows)
Heathen- Victims of Deception
Pink Floyd- The Wall
Genesis- The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway
