How is it compared to The Antidote?

It falls somewhere between The Antidote and Night Eternal. It is a pretty straight forward album, where The Antidote (my favorite of theirs) is much more atmospheric. I am working on a review for it, but I recently discovered it is a double disc set with another album entirely (like Therion's Lemuria/Serius B), so I don't think I will do the review until I hear that one. My thought on it right now is that it falls in the "good, not great" realm.

Yes, it is a double album. It seems the album is a grower or it is that Moonspell reached their peak with Antidote and now are releasing albums not on par with albums released in the past. I am a strong believer that one has to look at an album in itself and not really compare it to the rest of the discography. In this case it's a bit a different because in my book Moonspell does not have a lot of magnificent albums with The Antidote, like yourself, being my favourite. I stopped listening to Moonspell along time ago. It's not because they're bad or anything but just because I stopped caring for them altogether. I do like the themes and lyricism of Fernando but other than that Moonspell has been something of not a "lasting nature" for me.

Good to hear. I still need to pick it up. I enjoyed the last 2 so I'm sure I'll enjoy this one.

For those enjoying Overkill's new album, this is a side project of the guitarist. Pretty effective thrash. I would say it is a cross of Lamb of God and Pantera, if Lamb of God didn't lose my interest after the 3rd or 4th song of each album :D

Saw them live once a few years back. DD seemed to be into what he was doing, but the crowd wasn't.

I haven't heard that album, but from an album standpoint this is good stuff. Guess it just depends on the mood of the crowd, and who they are opening for (if that were the case). Thrash tends to blend together in a live setting and sound very similiar.

Charles Mingus! John Zorn! Van der Graaf Generator! Soft Machine! It's what you need.

Indeed. I have recently received two albums by VGG, bought a Mingus album, am contemplating on the Zorn, don't know of Soft Machine.

EDIT: Not that much into the whole Canterbury scene. Thanks for the recommendations, though! Cheers.

Second EDIT: I didn't know the CS was an influence on the Avant-Garde.
