It really is. You, sir, are a man of exquisite taste and sophistication!

I've known about him for a very long period of time, but I have only acquired the albums, which I have been playing, most recently, in the past few days. It is truly such lavishly smooth music. I have found that it does require your full-range of attention. Never easy music to listen to and so you have pay, an undivided and carefully close attention to it, and never just hear it. Because this sort of music can be easily dismissed, as elevator music, which is outrageous. One learns extensively, from listening sessions, what can never be taught or even conveyed in books, the delicate art of receptive listening, absorption, and contemplation.

A recording that I seldom listen to, but certainly, a historical recording, and a very significant, one at that. Shall be listening with delight.

An attempt to gain a better understanding of this recording.

I have not played this in a very long time, and only very infrequently, when it was the case, so let's see how this goes. I know it is a very powerful recording, so I know there is nothing to dislike, but no sense of familiarity, at all.

Edit: Quite stimulating, actually.

There is really nothing else in the universe like AC/DC.

Has been a while. The uniqueness of Davis' playing, and Shorter's, is truly remarkable, regardless of what you think about them otherwise, but most specially, irrespective of how they are thought about, today.

First spin. Later Dexter Gordon. He sounds very different on this album than he once did, in his prime. Very conservative and common-place. I will have to see how much I can take a liking to this recording. I'm sure there will be much to like about it, since it is Dexter Gordon, but how much, and to what degree, is an entirely different question, and perhaps a bit too early to form a sound judgement. We must understand that this is a very different time for jazz, and also for music, as a global phenomena, and accordingly, not only are the peaks of jazz already behind the masters of their craft, but also the rise of globalization, and mass culture, are ascending, and indeed intensifying, with great force. The effects on jazz is no exception, and can never to excluded with any significant ease of conscience.

Still forcing myself to like the previous Dexter Gordon that I was playing last night which I am having a very difficult time with to come to "understand." How much can a man change? Where is his artistic integrity? Gone out with his saxophone air...? Quite shocking, really.

Of all Miles Davis' records, this one is his most cinematic. Lush, unhurried orchestration carries the listener to exotic Latin locales with the pleasant company of Davis' mellow horn following closely beside. It's almost classical in construction, which is probably why I enjoy it so much. A complete work as opposed to a collection of songs. I don't play Miles too frequently, but my choice typically comes down to either Porgy & Bess or this record.

We have very similar taste. I both love Sketches of Spain and absolutely love Porgy and Bess with great passion. And that is reason that I don't listen to them, all that much, so that I can savor the pleasure of listening to them, for many years to come. I very much enjoyed your commentary, Joshua. Delightful. Thank you. Miles also uses a flugelhorn, too, alongside with his trumpet, which I love, as well, which you were well aware about. The ravishing and devastating sorrow of Miles' execution of melodies are truly extraordinary and remarkably bold. Their stunning depths are truly staggering.

Reductive and divinely simple. Executed with the most intense of convictions and with such ease of performance. The perfected elements of absolute excellence, which cannot be uttered into language, but must felt with one's wholeness of existence, with one's entire strength, and breadth of soul. I don't think that is possible. Yes, I am after impossibilities.
