Something like that. Shame you didn't, nice bit of flute towards the end...!

Howlin' Wolf - Evil

Good stuff, always liked ol' Howlin' and his skillz are truly mad here. Makes me want to hear more. 8.5 / 10 at minimum.

Gotta love the 'Hammer, although not sure I'd call that the best track from that album. Listening to this reminded me that they had a new album out in February, will have to see about hearing that...

Just discovered these guys: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sScQLDwT ... e=youtu.be

Excellent song. Highly original and great melodies and changes throughout the song. A solid 8/10. In terms of Master's Hammer, I didn't think that was the best song, either. Just the piece I was listening to at the time :). It's an excellent album from an extraordinary band. You should definitely check out their latest. It's quite impressive.

Uhh, I like it. Good stuff Zad. Minimum 7.5 on first listen.

Speaking of Wolves here's a track from one of my favorite 2011 albums:

I've never understood why retro heavy throwback metal back bands have to have shitty Andy Sneap production like this. It sucks the power out of the riffs yeah they have a rocking riff every now and the guitars are clearer, but it just sounds like processed garbage minus the vocals which themselves aren't anything special. The chugging riffs are a massive turnoff in this type of music, and the chorus just reminds me of awful cock rock. Weak song from a band that has competent musicians.

Refuge denied is one of my favorite metal albums. The second album not so much, but Warrel Dane in his prime was an incredible vocalist.

Wow, I had no idea he sung in bands before Nevermore. Not that I ever looked into it. Solid, rich riffs and just ridiculous banshee wails from Warrel Dane that I had no idea he could pull off, I really like it. 7.5/10

He was in a heavy metal band called Serpent's Knight before even Nevermore from 80-83 prior to even Sanctuary. They put out one full length and its more or less traditional heavy metal with soaring vocals even higher than the stuff on Refuge denied. The production is bad but its only because it was a home recording

A classic but it doesn't quite do it for me the way it should though. I've seen it live a couple of times and it is quite amazing in that environment. 7/10

Demons & Wizards - My Last Sunrise

mate Iced Earth meets Blind Guardian what a winning combination, good album I like Poor Man's Crusade a little more but that's still a solid 8.5/10

Persuader-Strike down

Vocals remind me of a younger Hansi of Blind Guardian, and in terms of riffs the riff deviates from a prog-esque guitar tone to a faster near thrashy pace. The solo is a little brief with the chugging tone in the background keeping momentum up, and the chorus of the song reflects the faster parts with the cymbal chiming in and out clearly in the song. I've always thought this band as proof Europower can be aggressive, and they still keep all the rudimentary aspects of the music heaviness, catchiness, and of course the good vocals. Good song from a band that needs to release a new album

One of the better songs by Persuader (from my hometown btw). I haven't listened to them in a dog's age. 7/10

Vicious Rumors - Worlds and Machines. Easily a 9 / 10. That is one awesome and unique central riff, plus the chorus is quite catchy.

Fates Warning-Fata Morgana

10/10

The opening dual melodied intro always caught me as showcasing the band's Maiden influence, and isn't that far from the numerous melodic intros of bands like Crimson Glory or even Titan force. John Arch's vocals are incredibly distinct with the trademark nasal tone, but its almost unimaginable to conceive of him not being on one of the greatest prog albums of all time. What makes the song and indeed the entire album is the way his voice shifts seamlessly inbetween the songs, the chorus of Fata Morgana makes it one of the most memorable songs off of Awaken the Guardian. The solo is strong almost a bit more uptempo than the constant drum fills, and the tempo of the song becomes slightly heavier after around 3:25. All and all an incredible song showing definitely the most influential prog band of the 80s, Dream theater, Blowpeth, and all of the other prog musicians cannot meld musical prowess with great songwriting like Fates Warning.
