Neo-classical guitar-work, gothic-horror thematics, the immediately recognizable 80's production, King's unmistakable harmonies, and the originality of this release, even to this date, is yet still unconquerable.

Yeah.

You don't play him very often. Wondering what you think of his distinct brand of singing.

Trying to come around on his falsetto's to be honest. I like Melissa but Don't Break The Oath I didn't enjoy as much due to the falsettos.

I'm enjoying "Abigail" right now though.

U-hum! It took me a few years. But Abigail, in particular is an outstanding piece of classical heavy metal. I love Don't Break The Oath, and Melissa is easily qualified as a top ten contenders of metal's very finest, in its entire history. It is my first time in many years since I've listened to Fatal Portrait and the high energy music, plus the exceptionally high-pitched vocal style, certainly does overwhelm anyone who has not heard the recording before. All in all, King Diamond has become amongst one of my favorite heavy metal bands, as the years have gone by.

Husker, for modern KD, this release is specially good.

An entirely capable early release by the orchestral masters, and a highly varied, and an atypically mature album, in the preliminary stages of the band's discography.

Having spent a considerable amount of time listening to bands such as Dissection and Sacramentum I do not really see a great exception to Necrophobic, with all reviews of this release on the Archives, gushing over it. Over and over again, this act of overemphasis of the superiority of these early releases, is repeated on the website. The two aforementioned bands, I will always love, but Necrophobic, sounds like a humbly-capable band in comparison. What I mean to say is that there is certain charm and gravity to Necrophobic and that mystical and bewitching allure, but I do not observe a great of substance or weight to the music itself. No real seriousness of musical abilities. However, the music produced is a phenomenal aural experience.

You're so negative! :P Seriously, have always enjoyed Necrophobic (well, their album last year was a step down, perhaps due to In Aphelion getting the songwriting focus) but they've been a pretty solid melodic black metal band throughout their career.

This album being over 15 years old makes me feel ancient... Enjoyed Dystopia and, to a lesser extent, 13 and The Sick but the 'Deth haven't come close to beating this.
