Aw, cmon man! There's more to music than metal! Don't be so narrow minded.

So judging from your last message, you eventually followed your boss' advice. And by the way, I don't think there is anything dumb with his quote anyway.

Well I never REALLY took his advice. I've been listening to other genres as well since I was young. But that didn't matter to him. He just had pleasure irritating me.

My recent 'diversity' in music wasn't a call I made. It's just so happen the lads I live with listen to it and I grew to like it. I was listening to Tamil and Bollywood songs when I was in primary, but fell out of it as a teenager when rock n roll hit me hard in the face. Now I'm just picking up from where I left.

As for the comment my boss made, well it's not really that bad, I admit. But try hearing it from 9am to 5pm daily, for 5 days a week, for 5 months straight.

I never really get any comments like that because I don't talk to those people about music. A lot of people where I live are quite shocked that the goody-two-shoes vicar's son (me, if you haven't guessed) listens to Burzum and Darkthrone. My mum's cool with it though, because she knows I'm mature enough not to burn down a church because Varg Vikernes did it.

Haha same here. Many people are taken aback when they find out I'm into devil music. It's because I'm not bothered showing off. I only wear my metal tshirts when I'm at gigs or hanging out with my metalhead friends.

My friends say I'm the least metal looking fella among us. They claim I look like a father of three. It must be the overgrown beard and the beer belly. Damn, but I'm cool.

Chest hair rulez!!!

Ditto. It sometimes pisses me off when people seem to think that the only way to be a metalhead is to wear spiked wristbands, grow your hair really long, and get a bunch of skull tattoos. Ummmm, isn't it possible to just LIKE the music without necessarily caring about "looking the part"?

And now we've gone from "outsiders" making stupid comments about Metal, to metalheads themselves making idiotic statements about Metal.

(btw spiked wrist bands are gay(ask village people)), but the worst thing is when talking with other metalheads they also critisize fact i don't have long hair!

Ironically, most of these are probably the same people who call Green Day fans and Britney Spears fans "followers."

Honestly, the people who run around shouting about how "un-Metal" they look are just as fucking annoying as the people who wear nothing but Burzum T-shirts and bullet-belts. There is no such thing as "looking" Metal, unless you're in a band, and you do nothing but help reinforce ignorant sterotypes by running around saying, "I know, I don't even have long hair". You are part of the problem, so stop it.

there isn't? so all those people who walk around in black clothes, band shirts, etc., what do they look like? i didn't say you have to look like that, i said that, for better or for worse, it's a look commonly associated with metal and metal fans.

and i've met maybe 2 or 3 "undercover" metal fans, so yes i do find it surprising when i meet one.

yeah...

or when someone says you don't look metal you could answer that you could never in a thousand years guess what music they like from their clothes because they look so fucking generic and like everyone else and then run off crying

that works too

Bruce Dickinson = short hair

Rob Halford = short hair or bald

Geoff Tate = bald at one point

Hair doesn't make you metal! I just love stereotypes. Tell them what makes you metal is when they make some stupid ass comment like that, you pull over and put there as out of the car and leave them on the side of the road!!

Well the long hair and tattoes are pretty acceptable. Although I don't have either, I will try to grow my hair and get some tattoes, depending on the nature of my job. If the job concerns one's appearance, then I'm fine with short hair and minimal tattoes. Tattoes are normally to create a brutal or cool image, with all those skull tatts etc. But I'm not gonna give a fuck bout that. All I need is two tattoes and I'm happy with them. A Maiden tatt (either the font, or an Eddie) and a tatt of the Liverpool FC logo. Go Reds!!!

The bullet belts and spikes are a little bit over the edge. I'll only wear them if I'm in a band. I won't even wear them for gigs. You know how many close calls I've had from assholes with 5 inch carpentry nails? My eyes!!! My eyes!!! I nearly lost them!!!

Point taken. But it still pisses me off when I get a lot of flack for not having long hair, tattoos, etc.

Bullet belts and spikes are OVER the edge. I would not wear it ,not even in a band. Carpentry nails??? dude that is really not necesary.
If I wanna wear like metalhead I'll wear ordinary jeans(black/blue maybe cammo), band T, maybe leather motorcycle jacket(depending on a person) and thats pretty much it!
