I went to see Amorphis, Orphaned Land and Ghost Brigade yesterday, with my dad and my brother of all people.
Ghost Brigade were the first band of the evening. I didn't really know them, except for a few songs. My brother is a huge fan and after the first song I understood why. What these guys lack on record, they make up on stage. They're actually a great band and I recommend everyone to give them a chance.
Orphaned Land was next. They put on a great show and I enjoyed myself a lot, except for one little incident. Now, it was pretty clear from the start that most people were there to see Amorphis. Nothing wrong with that ofcourse, they're a great band. During Orphaned Land, there was a Dutch couple standing right in front of me. It was pretty clear that they had never heard of Orphaned Land and they did not enjoy the music. It all comes down to personal taste obviously, so I just ignored them and enjoyed the show. But suddenly, just when "Sapari" ended, that Dutch guy said "Go home, don't you have some Palestinians to suppress?!". Not wanting to make a scene I just kept my mouth shut but I would have gladly punched the guy in the face. Only a few minutes later his girlfriend started playing a game on her cellphone. As I said earlier, I don't mind if someone doesn't like the music, to each his own. But it's this lack of respect which I can't stand. But besides those two morons I had a great time watching Orphaned Land. They even had a bellydancer.
Amorphis closed the evening. The first song was kind of weak, as if they were just warming up. But by the second and third song they were firing on all cylinders. They mainly played songs of Skyforger, some fan favourites and a few old songs.
Overall I had a great night. It was the first concert I went to in months and afterwards I wondered why.
