Agreed. No prog band comes close to the sheer genius of Genesis, King Crimson, Gentle Giant, Yes, Van der Graaf Generator. :P

I can't help it. Without fail, this is the album that pops into my head whenever someone wants to discuss what the pure sound of heavy metal is.

When the Dream Theater members were sucking on objects as children, King Crimson, Gentle Giant, Camel, Goblin, Jethro Tull were making excellent music which was groundbreaking. So whatever DT makes has already been covered by the masters before. Albums like Octopus, Roller, Snow Goose, Moonmadness, In the Court of the Crimson King, Benefit, are now and forever untouchable by anyone attempting to replicate them.

Actually, not bad at all great riffs and the vocals are very unique.
I don't know why you'd be surprised this is great. Shining is pretty awesome and that album is outstanding.

This album is a sonic masterpiece of slow heavy moody textural sound manipulation. If you’ve ever liked Godflesh, Head Of David, Scorn or even Lard, you will like this album. And if you don’t know or like those bands, you should still check GBT out, just to marvel at the sonic depth on offer.
