Did this. Pretty awesome. Blackguard was headlining. Never heard them until tonight, and they're a wicked fun live show. Moshed with the vocalist from Neuraxis. Fuck yeah.

I saw Jucifer a while back. I really need to see them again, because while I remember them being loud, I also happened to be hammered and as such that's about all I remember.
They are just ridiculous to be honest. Between the drummer like acting as if he hates drumming and her just being so intense and it's so loud and it's a show. His drum equipment is just so trashed and he just beats the shit out of it even more it seems.

Miiight go see Twilight Hammer and a few other local bands this Saturday. I'm undecided at this point. The last Twilight Hammer show I saw kind of failed to really impress. It was cool, and I like their music, but felt like it was lacking in energy. Granted there were not a lot of people there for their set and if I remember they were also having some technical problems, but good live bands, I find, learn to play with as high energy whether they're playing front of ten people or in front of 1000. Still may go just to hear some good music and drink a few beers.

Too bad Demontage isn't joining in on this one, though. :dio:

line-ups for Heavy MTL/TO have been somewhat set. Not a great line-up, but definitely some bands worth seeing.

Heavy MTL:
KISS
Disturbed
Billy Talent
Godsmack
Motorhead
Anthrax
Opeth
In Flames
Children of Bodom
Trivium
As I Lay Dying
Machine Head
Unearth
The Sword
Suicide Silence
Times of Grace
Red Fang
DevilDriver
Kingdom of Sorrow
All Shall Perish
Straight Line Stitch
and more to be announced later.

Heavy TO:
Megadeth
Rob Zombie
Billy Talent
Slayer
Anthrax
Opeth
Motorhead
Mastodon
Children of Bodom
Testament
As I Lay Dying
Baptized in Blood
Anvil
The Sword
Times of Grace
Melissa Auf der Maur
DevilDriver
and many more...

so I think Heavy TO wins, because all the bands woth seeing at MTL will be at TO plus more bands worth seeing. I'd like to go to both, but will probably just go to Toronto.

Anthrax, Motorhead, Opeth and Red Fang does not make a festival worth going to for the extravagant price I assume it to cost.

and for me I don't like Opeth and have never even heard of Red Fang. But the best part of going to Heavy MTL is not for the festival itself, but the excuse to go to Montreal for a few days of drunkin' fun. Unfortunately money may say otherwise...

Is it just me or is the pop punk of Billy Talent ridiculously out of place on that line-up?

they add bands like that so they can say that they appeal to all fans of "heavy" music.

Went to Paganfest with my girlfriend and my best friend. It was good, but not great. Kivimetsän Druidi were better than I expected and so was Arafel. I skipped Heidevolk because they suck. Varg was really good. Then finally it was time for Moonsorrow to take the stage. I actually paid 30 euros just to see them. And they did not dissapoint. They played Kivenkantaja, Sankatarina, some awesome song I didn't recognize, Muinaiset and Kuolleiden Maa. Seeing those last two songs live made me realize how fucking awesome the new album is. Especially Kuolleiden Maa which was my least favorite. The atmosphere they created with that one is undescribable. There was way too much moshing going on though which really pissed me off.
I skipped half of Unleashed's set but they were not that bad.
Eluveitie sucked until they played Inis Mona, from there it just got better. I really enjoyed watching them and they enjoyed playing.
Korpiklaani closed the evening. For a party metal band they came across as really fucking bored. And they didn't play Happy Little Boozer. Assholes. But I got a Moonsorrow tshirt which made me feel happy again.

Boo! The new album is pretty decent and would have been cool to see live (Dondergod and Beest Bij Nacht especially). Plus seeing older songs like Vulgaris Magistralis, Sachsenland and Hulde aan de Kastelein would have been cool.

Did the play Pakanajuhla? That alone would have been worth the 30 Euros. I've only seen Moonsorrow once but would have loved to see them again.

Witness my jealousy.

That's weird. Usually they're pretty lively to see and the whole place goes apeshit. Happy Little Boozer and Beer Beer are like mainstays in their setlist. That fucking sucks.

All this to say that I'm jealous of your Paganfest. I often go when it comes to North America, but it didn't come this year and I would have loved to see a few of the bands on the lineup. Never seen Unleashed or Heidevolk live, and Moonsorrow would have been awesome to see again.

Well, saying Heidevolk suck might have been too blunt. They have some decent melodies and Dondergod is a good song. My main issue with them (and I know that the problem lies with me, not with them) is that they sing in Dutch, my mother tongue but with an accent I can't stand even after loads of beer.

I listened to Pakanajuhla (fucking great song, no surprises there) but it's (unfortunately) not the song Moonsorrow played. I still have no clue which one it was.

Unleashed always bored me on record but at Paganfest they actually provided a breath of fresh air with their run of the mill death metal. In hindsight I kind of regret skipping half of their set because I really enjoyed headbanging to Midvinterblot and Hammer Batallion.

All in all I enjoyed myself, don't get me wrong. But an indoor festival with practically no room to sit down for a moment is just too tiresome for me, despite the great bands.

Say what? Heidevolk are awesome! At first them singing in Dutch threw me off too, but I've come to accept it. (I do speak it too btw).

Varg however are just terrible. They seem to play every Heidenfest/Paganfest show and I always have to suffer through that, ugh!

I was thinking of going to the Pagenfest yesterday, but I was way to sick to make it. A bit bummed out that I missed Moonsorrow though :(

Gonna go see Earth on Tuesday in what's probably my favourite venue in Scotland. This should be nothing short of amazing.

Let me know how it is. They're going to be here in June.
