Mayhem was actually pretty awesome.
Mobile Death Camp, Beefcake from Gwar playing thrash. Fucking great.
Straight Line Stitch, iwabo minus all the goofiness? Kinda blows and made me realize that playing deathcore takes so little talent. The guitarists were so fucking weak. Standing there and chugging, really boringly.
Red Fang, fucking awesome. Groovy as all hell and really fun guys. Met them afterwards and they were super down to earth.
Took a break to shake Dave Ellefson's hand and get a photo together at some booth.
Came back to the stage to catch the second half of Suicide Silence's show. Holy shit I was impressed. Yeah, they play lame deathcore. But they do it well and the lead singer is pretty badass. I never mosh but somehow he had me running into a wall of death. They ended with No Pity for A Coward and he said you fuckers better come crowd surf and the security people freaked out. Tons of crowd surfing and so I joined in. Never done it before. Landed on my neck. Still sore after two days but it was so fun. The guy who came down before me had busted his nose on the rail and had a medic patch him up.
Then In Flames. Everything steve has ever said about them is correct. Fucking pussy radio metal.
Then Trivium. Decent. Looked super dorky, surprisingly not including Heafy in this. But played quality music.
Machinehead opened the main stage and it wasn't bad. They didn't play Davidian. That was dumb but Aesthetics of Hate was awesome.
Then Megadeth, and it was kinda weak. Every 'deth track ever played on the radio and that was it. Opening up with Trust means something is off. Peace Sells, Symphony, Holy Wars, Hangar, Headcrusher, A Tout Le Monde and the new track which kinda blows.
And then I went home.
I've seen Suicide silence before they got big at sweaty house shows here, boring music but an excellent live band that always gets the pit spilling out of the safe area.
