VIRGIN STEELE

New album "The Black Light Bacchanalia" will be released in
Germany / Austria / Switzerland: October 22nd, 2010
Europe: October 25th, 2010
USA / Canada: November 9th, 2010

Available as limited edition digipak, standard CD, double gatefold vinyl and download

David DeFeis reveals: “The album is called: THE BLACK LIGHT BACCHANALIA, and the following tracks will most likely end up on there: BY THE HAMMER OF ZEUS, PAGAN HEART,THE BREAD OF WICKEDNESS, THE ORPHEUS TABOO, , IN A DREAM OF FIRE
NEPENTHE , NECROPOLIS (He Answers Them With Death) , TO CROWN THEM WITH HALOS Parts 1 & 2 , THE TORTURE’S OF THE DAMNED, THE BLACK LIGHT BACCHANALIA (The Age That Is To Come) and ETERNAL REGRET.
It will be a long album...close to 80 minutes...The album (to be really brief), concerns the reversal of all things...Once conquered by invading cultures, older Pagan deities become the demons…of the new religion. The Black Light Bacchanalia is a reversal of the sacred sexual customs, and the final desecration of the "Goddess Principle", switching from matrilineal descent to patrilineal descent, with the rise of the idea of the Mountain-Fire God.... And it also has to do with ancient fears such as the fear of the sun not rising...Lyrically it is a kind of continuation of the story I told on the last album...Musically it is quite something else...”

I've never seen the actual cover art for that album.

Holy 1994 Macintosh Art, Batman.

And btw Principle and Vempire slay Dusk. Damnation is strangely liked and I don't get it. It was alright.

The Panopticon bit is part II of "On the Subject of Mortality". Part one is going to be on another split with When Bitter Spring Sleeps.

I want that. That art is amazing.

Edit: Pulled the trigger. $8.50 w/ shipping is a stellar price.

NP

I don't know enough about the 'Cascadian' sound, so I'll ask: do any of these bands acknowledge a direct influence from Agalloch?

I guess it depends what you mean by acknowledge... a lot of them don't do interviews that much and when they do they tend to drone on a bit about nature and philosophy. I'm sure if you were to ask them directly "do you like Agalloch?" more than a few would probably say yes.

EDIT: But Agalloch are Cascadian, aren't they?

Agalloch is proto-Cascadian. Cascadian before it became a descriptor.

They are from Portland, Oregon, so I suppose they come from the area, indeed. But they also prefigure the term and sound somewhat different from what I have heard from 'Cascadian'.

I quite enjoy this Skagos track as a whole.

trapt beat me to it....damn
