GOOD 'CAUSE WRATH WAS A BIT RUBBISH.

New Anathema and Suffocation are forthcoming, too. Good, and good, for very different reasons.

The new Suffocation will more than likely continue the downhill trend, but with at least three or so good songs. The tech factor is really fucking their songs up.

Don't I remember you loving their last album? Hm. Thought it was pretty good meself, if no Pierced.

It was passable with a few good songs, but one can already see the visible decline in quality. Too much mid-paced material and the quirk technical meandering was quite dull, that and the production as crystalline as it was kind of desiccated the music. They will never record another Pierced, Human Waste, or Effigy and this is understandable- but at least their s/t was good as well as Despise the Sun.

Thought so! :P I still like it re my review, gave it a listen the other day. Best NYDM act, without a doubt, looking forwards to their new slab of heaviness.

It's not overwhelming. Not bad, though. Expecting another solid album at worst so far.

listened to it 3 times so far today, kinda a weird Megadeth song. Waited for the crazy solos to come and they never did. Still a solid song, and the new album is 2 for 2 so far. (Sudden Death being the other song)

Boring beyond limits.

cool

eh? Immolation > all other NYDM (all other death metal period) but ya Suffocation are one of the best. Immolation have the best song writing in all of the genre with the only exception being Chuck Schuldiner.

Anyone remotely interested in innovative progressive music should be checking this out. Dark Suns from Germany. http://www.darksuns.de/ Stroll down and listen to the teaser. The album is anticipated to come out in late 2011 although it doesn't sound very promising. The name of the album is Orange.

Bad new: Lou Reed sounds awful in the Metallica collab.

Awesome band, will probably grab this one to review if no one else has claimed it yet.

Listening now. It's certainly better than I was expecting after the slightly bland tracks that have been released so far... best, though? Hmmmm.......

It's better than I had anticipated but it's still lacking in the energy of the first 2 albums.

Their music's also becoming very conventional rock/heavy metal. Some of it sounds quite like Alice In Chains.

Overall enjoyable with some good riffs but certainly not the headfuck of Remission or intensity of Leviathan.

Certainly better than the last couple of drab meander fests.

Yeah, I don't know if it's their best...I really don't have a clear-cut favorite with them. If I had to choose, I'd say Crack the Skye or Leviathan. Remission has some great songs, but it really surprises me when people talk about it as if it's far superior to their post-Leviathan stuff...vocals are bad and there are some duds on there.

But, The Hunter may crack the favorites. Too early to say. The vocals are so, so much better...and the riffs are probably superior to Crack the Skye.

It annoys me when people say this is hard rock. This is definitely still metal, although for sure not as heavy as their older stuff.

Bits of it are metal. But many bits are rock and some bits are prog rock.

I don't care though. If I did I wouldn't listen to Faith No More or Soundgarden either.

You and I both know that there's no way in Hell that they're gonna pull of those vocals live. It's kinda cool though, but not their best.

A little disappointed with this one tbh. I mean Mastodon have always had hard rock tendencies in their music (even on remission) but The Hunter pretty much removes almost all traces of metal in favor of more radio accessible song structures and vocals. There are still some awesome ideas but this is definitely my least favorite album by them for sure. I'm sure mainstream media outlets will still praise the shit out of it though.
