Heavy TO and Heavy MTL have never had purely awesome lineups, but this years may be the worst yet. Headliners are Slipknkt, Marilyn Manson, System of a Down, Killswitch Engage, and Lamb of God. I just vomited.

But! There are some bands that save it, like: High on Fire, Exhumed, Origin, Suicidal Tendencies, and, this is a big one and the only reason I'm going: OVERKILL! 'nuff said.
Get in early and leave early.

unfortunately my friend who is coming with really likes System and wants to see Slipknot and Manson. I'll be stationed at the beer tent as soon as Overkill is done.

Seeing Destruction in May with Warbringer and Vital Remains.

Also, add Fleshgod Apocalypse to the Heavy MTL line-up of bands worth seeing.

Fleshgod is playing in Cape Town tomorrow night? Are they really worth checking out?

If you like pretty intense death metal with keyboards and other kinds of craziness. I've only heard one album, Agony I believe it's called, but I can dig and definitely will enjoy them live.

Haven't seen 'em live but they're an amazing band in the studio.

Saw Donizetti's Maria Stuarda tonight. Two lead singer ladies were amazing but the plot was super depressing. Post-intermission was all Maria getting ready to die.

I saw them last year, there just as good as they are in the studio.

Watain won't be playing with Behemoth tonight due to visa issues. Fucking bureaucracy. It was bad enough that I freaked out when they changed venues but now this. Ugh. Devil's Blood and In Solitude better be fucking great.

Saw Iced Earth last week - phenomenal. I really wasn't expecting them to be so good live.

You'll have a hell of a time with The Devil's Blood, a ritualistic experience...

It sucks big time that you won't be able to see the mighty Watain.

The Devil's Blood sucked, but I'll get to that.

In Solitude was rather shitty. The vocalist was a hot damn mess. You couldn't hear him and by the end of the show he had just fallen into me off the stage and I had to hold the fucker up while he tried singing his last chorus. Should have let him fall. The riffs were just basic Angel Witch it seemed like. The drummer was the one stand-out aspect of their set.

The Devil's Blood came out super dramatically and then just played the most boring set I have ever sat through. Decent riffs, but no showmanship. Boring live performance. Being covered in pseduo-blood doesn't mean you can stand their like an oaf and cycle through your riffs. If they didn't seem so damn pretentious maybe I would have been able to tolerate it. Oh, and vocalist lady? Not bombastic at all and her vox totally didn't match the music. I'd take Jex Thoth any day over that shit.

Behemoth. Nergal's first show in the states since leukemia and it was pretty awesome. He's thinned out, looked like he has aged a bit, but he's in super awesome shape. He visibly appeared tired at times and he took some breaks, just like fifteen seconds between songs but he was on his game. The blonde rhythm guitarist took over for some of the vocals but it worked out completely fine. Overall, they seemed to be playing slower. What I love about Behemoth live sets is how they used to speed each track up, but understandably Nergal has kinda settled into his Alas, Lord Is Upon Me and Lucifer pace, and the songs totally still work. He is just such a badass though. Doing solos leaning into the crowd, working the folks and getting them pumped. He just exudes confidence.

Honestly, if anyone is planning on attending future shows on this tour, coming an hour and a half after the show starts won't hurt you. Watain will surely bring a strong performance where the others lacked.

Behemoth's stage presents is absolutely monstrous, just like their music is in studio. In terms of TDB, I personally enjoyed them. There was a certain aura about them that I enjoyed and will do whenever I see them in the future. It's unfortunate that you weren't able to enjoy them. To each their own.

I saw behemoth and watain in mesa last night, it was phenomenal, behemoth sounded huge compared to other bands i've seen at that venue like Amon Amarth.

Watain killed it and The Devil's Blood really blew me away, I've been listening to the devil's blood all day now, they really rock.

In solitude had a really shitty mix where you could barely hear the guitars which was dissapointing, as I've heard they're pretty good.

Funny I couldn't hear In Solitude's vocals but the guitars were clear.

All you could hear was vocals and drums for In Solitude. It was at this place called the Nile Theater which is just one big brick wall room and is kind of notorious for having shit sound sometimes.

The last live show I've been to was Enslaved/Alcest which was quite a few months ago. Negura Bunget is coming to town but I'll be working. It's my first week back at work so I can't really take it off or anything because it'll look bad. Marduk is also coming to town with 1349 apparently. I'm fond of seeing 1349 but not so much of Marduk. I think 1349 has produced very good and unique BM. I own their first three albums. Excellent stuff! I think I spend enough money on purchasing music that not going to shows or going to them not very frequently wouldn't hurt a soul.

Their drummer was where it's at anyways. He was a beast.
