Sorry if this has been done before... But I run into frequent times where many metalheads are like " omfg this is kvlt " and I think it's utter garbage.

I think the biggest name that comes to my mind is Pantera. Starting out as a glam metal band, then trying to totally hide that and ride with current trends, all while playing silly hillbilly metal didn't ever sit well with me.

Plus Phil is a D bag. He thinks GWAR sucks. :P

What about you guys? I'm expecting lots of Lamb of God's and In Flames'.

Moron. This statement right here says you don't know shit about music. That opinion that you have on Pantera is about as trendy as they come. Yes, trendy. And it's completely incorrect.

No, stop. It's wrong. Incorrect. Don't even reply.

Anthrax are a good place to start, I've liked some of their stuff but never seen why they deserve the 'Big Four' kudos as opposed to, say, Testament or Exodus, both of whom Thrash far better...

GWAR! Maybe I've not got the joke yet, but they don't seem that special.

3 Inches Of Blood - seriously, hardcore plus power metal. :P

Never liked Pantera much either, except for the Power Metal and Cowboys From Hell albums. Then again, I dislike bands based around groove, so thats no surprise.

Lets see... Testament I have always found to be lacking in the riff department, even if Skolnick played some damn good lead guitar. I've found Ozzy's solo career (and much of his time with Sabbath) to be utterly average; the only albums he's on that get above an eighty from me are No Rest For the Wicked and Sabotage, with everything else (including the classic Sabbath albums like the s/t and Paranoid) being incredibly inconsistent.

All sorts of flowery metal bands too (Edguy, Sonata Arctica, Freedom Call, Rhapsody, etc..). They have good songs, all of them, and good albums too. But I will never understand the praise they get (well, maybe Rhapsody, because at least they were different at the beginning).

"hate" is such a strong word... and theres a ton of really loved metal i'm not a big fan of.

I'll agree with Pantera, 3 inches of blood, and Ozzy though

Gwar, for one. The novelty wears off almost instantly.

I'll go with 3 Inches Of Blood too. And I'll also say The Darkness. Everyone thought it was so cool to have an 80's Metal revival band, and they were the next big thing and all that, but 4 years later, who gives a shit?

Opinions

agree about Gwar sucking

Black Label Society just sucks

Ozzy is overrated

Black Sabbath without Dio is even more overrated

I love Pantera. Always will.

Testament's catalog is very mediocre, but good for a couple songs every album.

Anthrax sucks.

I really cannot think of a metal band that I have listened to that I hate. The bands that I hate are non-metal. I have listened to some pretty bad albums. For example, I hated Entombed's Clandestine. But I really cannot say I hate the band cos I haven't listened to any other album of theirs.

The Big 4 was in terms of success.

GWAR can ONLY be appreciated live.

I dunno about 3 Inches, I'm stuck on em.

I dunno why I picked on you Zad, but it only seemed appropriate.

And Pantera fucking rule.

Well, like I said, dunno why Anthrax deserved more success than the others.

If it's only good when you're getting sprayed with fake cum, there must be something wrong with it.

I don't hate Iron Maiden by any stretch of the imagination, but Seventh Son is the only album where I can see what all the fuss is about.

I don't get Mayhem. DMDS was pretty bad, seems like its success is too based on the time surrounding the album. The new stuff actually sounds pretty cool though.

Agreed with Mintrude about the Mayhem part.
I can't get the hype around early Deicide, Entombed post-Left Hand Path, Malevolent Creation, most Obituary stuff, Disgorge (US)...

More or less all groove-based metal bands in the vein of Machine Head and Pantera. But that doesn't really fit with "Metal Bands You Hate But Everyone Else Seems To Love" because a lot of people beside me don't like that style of metal.

Testament, again, a lot of people don't like them, but I have to concur with them. The stuff I've heard is very underwhelming - thrash without a multitude of riffs seems pointless. They were terrible when I saw them last August, the sons were either boring or too groovy for me. At one point towards the end of the set I got all excited and turned round to my buddy to say "hey, there's a riff!"

Slayer

Show No Mercy is awesome, but it lifts soooo much form Venom it's not even funny. I always laugh when I see Slayer fans dissing Venom.

Reign in Blood is indeed a Classic album, without question. Everything else they've done has ranged from mediocre, to downright terrible.

Arch Enemy.

Staler than a 3 week old bag of chips.

I'd be offended but I take it you're a Pantera fan. If you want to say I'm trendy and ignorant that's fine. I think my album collection would probably prove otherwise, though.

Also that's just my opinion. I don't appreciate being called a moron because of it. If you don't like it please feel free to state that, but calling me a moron lacks a certain amount of intelligence when I'm simply sharing an opinion and asking others to do the same and be reasonable while doing so.
