I love listening to chillout music, gotta be in the right mood of course, but i was wondering what you guys listen to when you just need to relax and unwind??? |

When I need to relax and unwind usually I smash, kick or jump on everything in my way. When I'm angry i'm throwing my anger all around me. Destroying everything, usually with some hard object, the greater the damage the better, it so fucking feels good when you throw it all out, almost orgasmic. (Almost ended up in a mental institution because of it) |

I generally put on Souvaris's I Felt Nothing At All. It's not really ambient 'cause its got guitars/bass/drum/etc (never been able to get into electronic stuff personally), but it's so empty and soothing. |

For metal Falkenbach and Moonsorrow do wonders for me when I want to relax. Any metal on my winamp playlist will eventually do the job though. |

When in need to relax, I don't usually listen to music from the whole super-genre of metal unless specific circumstanes allow or demand it. Chillout music alá Café del Mar and such is totally a no-no for me as a general rule. I've noticed that this kind of chill-out music actually confuses me and manages to mess up my bodily rythms in the most weird way. My girlfriend sometimes listens to this and I always complain and bitch because I feel that it confuses my heart rate and my breathing pattern. Honestly, no other music has that fucking-up effect on me. And to think that I could listen to this a several years ago.... Anyway, what I usually prefer is listening to movie and video/computer game soundtracks. I'm quite a passionate collector of those and I admit that I listen more to this kind of modern classical music than metal. I find it more easily accessible and more relaxing than regular older or modern classical music because due to their nature (deriving from a visual medium) movie & game soundtracks are much less impressionisic thus requiring less from the listener. Because of that it's easier to immerse yourself in the music, match it to your mood and enjoy it under most circumstances. At least, that's how I feel about it. |

Usually if I'm looking to relax or do schoolwork I listen to soundtracks, classical, anything that's instrumentally driven. Yo-Yo Ma(Cello) and Sarah Chang(Violin) rank highly. I love the creepy sounds of Midnight Syndicate. I've been known to refer to Jewel , Sarah McLachlan, Michelle Branch, and Sarah Brightman too. It all depends on my mood. |

Gordian Knot's self titled album is very relaxing as well. Ignore all the people who say it's Progressive Metal, as Fusion would be a more appropriate term. It's actually some of the only Fusion that doesn't bore me to death. In fact, it's quite awesome. |

Yep that's exactly how I feel about it. The game sound tracks I listen too regularly are from all 3 Halo games, Castlevania, and God of War. I'm telling you, there's a whole genre of Halloween/creepy soundtrack like music out there that's really cool. Check out Midnight Syndicate, Nox Arcana, and Gathering OF Darkness. |

I might sound like a complete pussy for saying this, but I like quite a lot of New Age music. Enya is one of my top choices for chillout music, and also a few songs by Maire Brennan, Era, Secret Garden and Vangelis (don't really know how to classify him, though. Red Hot Chili Peppers has quite a lot of good, calm songs, as well as Dire Straits, The Dubliners (I love irish folk) and many other bands. |

Not at all. For as much as we metal fans love the aggressive side of music you still have to have balance. There's nothing wrong with enjoying different genres of music.
