Michael Kiske is so far from overrrated, as is Warrel Dane. Stupid thread unless you explain why.

Well, what's so special about Kiske, sir?

I know Kiske is a good musician, but I really just dislike his voice. There's nasal, like Bruce Dickinson, and then there's super annoyingly nasal, like Kiske. This may be blasphemy, but I prefer Kai Hansen's voice.

+1. If you're gonna say someone's overrated or underrated, you should back up your claim.

Kirk Hammett?? Pfff lame.

As for regressive thrash, isn't it's blatant plagiarism equal to the repetitive onslaught of melodic death metal bands that all sound the same?

I suppose one could say that. Then again, some melodeath bands are doing something different, while every (retro) thrash metal band I've heard is caught in an endless regression.

But then again, I don't care much for melodeath, either. It's more of a stepping stone for one just getting into the death genre. I could care less who inhabits it, and/or if they die off.

it's kinda weird to expect new sounds from a genre with 'retro' in it's name. it's almost as if... the genre is defined as stuff that sounds like bands from the past. shocking!

i dont really think about musicians i dislike enough to wonder about them being overrated or not. Rody Walker is hella underrated because everyone says he's the worst part of Protest the Hero but he's definitely the best part 'cause what makes them special is him being able to write secksy melodies over their music. get a worse singer and you'd just be left with Sikth or The Human Abstract.

oh c'mon, it's fun to bash a little.

I'll explain:

M. Kiske - I think his voice is super-annoying, but its probably a love it or hate it thingy. He gets alot of good criticism and alot of the opposite.

Warrel Dane - Simply the reason why I can't get into Nevermore.

Roope Latvala - People say he is the best finnish guitarist there is. Well I completely disagree.

Kirk Hammet - aw come on.

Kerry King - to sloppy for my liking

underrated:
Jørn Lande - well okay, he's not that underrated but some people can't stand him, and I don't understand why. He is one of my favourites.

Nicko - Probably my favourite drummer, but you don't hear alot about him unfortunately.

Paul di'anno - An awesome vocalist who seems to be forgotten

Thomas Youngblood - A very skilled guitarist, both techincal and creative. It would be awesome if he allowed himself to do more leads.

Sammet isnt overrated he is actually a great singer.

yeah, Meshuggah's general sound is a lot more impressive than their songwriting. most of their stuff gets really boring after 10-15 minutes.

I actually agree on that one, allthough I really like them.. I can't listen to several albums by meshuggah

To be more specific, I meant his Avantasia projects.

Hhhmm...a guitarist that immediately comes to mind that I feel never gets the proper respect is Glenn Tipton. Perhaps it's because he plays within the confines of Judas Priest, I don't know. That guy is responsible for influencing tons of guitarists. A great representation of his abilities lies within the solo in "Painkiller". It's phenomenal. Plus, the amount of riffs and songs that he's written is (at this point) tough to calculate. All the while he quietly goes on with no real fanfare.



A true METAL GOD!!

I think the same goes for Malcolm Young of AC/DC. He has written alot of good stuff.

Well yeah youre right about that, i still think that there are some really great tracks from the first 2 Avanatasia, but theyre no THE BEST power metal albums ever like some fanboys claim.

Really? i always got the impression that he was very much respected among metalheads, i for one consider Tippton and Downing to be the best guitar players in Heavy Metal.

On the other hand Andy LaRocque seems to me like he's a little underrated, his style and technique are superb, all his leads are quite excellent.
