I was just wondering what the longest time you have suffered this condition after attending a gig?

I am entering my 15th day aural torture and my nerves is pretty much shot to hell. I am still hoping that it is not permanent, but if your ears are ringing 15 days after a gig, well...it does not look good.

Does anybody know if there is anything that will give relief and hopefully make the noise stop (other than blowing my head off)

I am seriously not enjoying life these days.

A few days. Never longer. Wear ear muffs or noise canceling headphones for a while to keep them safe till they heal?

Have you seen a doctor about this?

Yes i have, i went to a ENT who did a hearing test on me and found out that i have not suffered any hearing loss, so that's something i guess, see, the thing is i was wearing earplugs throughout the entire gig, but i still got a pretty bad case of tinnitus. I have spoken to some people who said that they suffered tinnitus for as long as 4 weeks after the gig. I hope my ears will heal soon because i am seriously concerned about my mental health at this point.. I am taking pills for anxiety and i try not to let the fear of permanent tinnitus consume me, but it's takes a lot of effort.

This is affecting my sleep and destroying my mental health. If i recover from this i am never going to any gigs ever again, because the fear of getting this condition permanently is too great.

I am getting desperate at this point and i'll try any fucking thing.

There was this guy called Snåsamannen in Trondheim who apperantly can cure people and has a lot of supporters. Hell sometimes the county doctor refers patients to this guy.

The big thing that seperates this guy from all the other "healers" is that he doesn't charge money for his services. The guy apparantly does not own a phone (because he is so popular) so i'll have to write him a letter asking him if he will see me because i'll try anything to get rid of this fucking noise even if this means i'll have to see a healer.

Dude that sucks... at least it sounds like you're not going to have any long-term hearing loss. I guess you could try some strong sleeping pills, but apart from that I'm not sure what to suggest.

This is just a suggestion, I'm no doctor. I heard humming the noise to match the same pitch helps. It fades after a while of doing so... so I've heard.

Wow. I don't think I've ever experienced more than i few days of tinnutus (if you can even call it that, when it's not chronic) after a gig. I wouldn't know what to do about it.

Just out of curiosity: What gig did you go to, that could mess you up like that?

If I remember correctly, he said it was the Unholy Alliance tour, maybe.

I've had tinnitus since I was 5, so 15 and a bit years now. It's one of the reasons why I wear ear plugs when I go to gigs, I don't want it getting worse.


It's something I've gotten used to, I don't really notice it now unless I concentrate on it.

I've actually just remembered a friend of mine that went to Motorhead without ear plugs I think it was about 2 weeks before the ringing started to subside.

Man, there are not many things i have have done that i truly regret doing, but going to this gig ranks no. 1 on my list right now. It feels really unfair right now because my friend goes to gigs all the time and he does not use earplugs, yet he never gets tinnitus after a gig. Lucky SOB..

Right now the tinnitus isn't too bad, but it changes in volume from kind of soft to loud and a few days ago it was skullsplittingly loud.

I am only 22 years old and have not been to that many gigs yet but like i allready said, i think this whole experience has turned me off from going to gigs permanently. I don't think i ever wanted silence so bad before but at the same time i am afraid of the silence because the silence comes with no distractions thus i concentrate on the ringing and it gets louder.

Taking a shower has become my highlight of the day because it drowns out the ringing and i can relax for a while. Also, playing videogames seems to help because i then focus on what's going on at the screen and not in my head.

That sounds fuckin Black Metal, man. Is he a witch doctor/shaman or something? I'm not trying to be funny but over here in Asia, some people still practice consulting witch doctors/shamans to cure problems that could not be done with present day medical technology. And of course, people still visit them to cast spells or lay a curse on someone.

I really feel sorry for you, man. Being a metalhead and having this problem doesn't gel well. But whatever it is, health IS always top priority (it's fuckin ridiculous for me to say this since I'm a heavy smoker ).

Get a second opinion, man. Maybe that might help. Hope you get it over with soon.
