wow... browsing through my RYM, so many disappointments this year. it's pretty rare that something disappointments me, but i probably could've done a top 10

How could anybody put Motorhead in their surprises? It's freaking Motorhead, they haven't surprised anybody in 33 years.

Motorhead has been consistently decent, nothing spectacular for the last decade and then the new album is just fucking amazing. I say it is one of their best albums ever. It caught me by surprise.

Well, just thought I'd say a few words about my votes and the year as a whole. I myself constantly try to find new bands and tend not to listen to the same bands for years at a time (there's a few exceptions) but that's mostly why there may be some lesser known bands in my lists. Lots of disappointments in 2008 for me (like Noodles said, could easily have done top 10 myself) but also lots of surprises and my overall list is a top 50, so also a lot of awesome stuff. I left a lot of stuff out of my top 15 but it's probably for the best, since like I said, my list would be neverending. I had to leave out the likes of Scar Symmetry, Cynic and Volbeat but all of them and countless others released superb albums this year.

So as a whole, 2008 was a great year for metal in general IMO and looking at the list of bands who are set to release in 2009, it should be pretty awesome too. 2008 seemed to be especially strong for death metal. I don't think I've had so many death metal releases constantly finding their way into my player and it's a refreshing change. Here's to hoping 2009 will be even greater.

I have one EP and one Live album in top 15 this year, not sure if it's a good or bad sign. Anyway, 2008 has been a fine year, although just a bit on the shy side with full blown epic top score albums. On RYM I had 3 top score albums from 2006 and 2007 each, but this year there's only Colors_Live, which really is an album of last year to be fair, and The Bedlam in Goliath.
Hope I can manage to catch up on a few hidden gems during the holidays, but a new year beckons, and it's always a good idea to stay tuned right from the start.

I mean, It's about Time this year, ain't it?

Wait til my list comes... i'm delaying it, just relistening a lot of albums, but by the moment, Cynic is my top 1.

Just voting in the General polls this year, given the diversity too many albums could go in one of two genres.
