Aphex Twin's Selected Ambient Works vol 2 makes me feel like my brain is turning into a bubble

Brian Eno is a great start for those who want to get into quality ambient.

I have No Pussyfooting with Robert Fripp on my list of albums to listen to. Is that a good starting point?

Better start with "Ambient 1: Music for Airports" but the Fripp/Eno's great just...more difficult.

Yet to really delve into Eno, but I do like the darker ambience of Mortiis etc sometimes.

Not a genre I've explored as much as I'd like to but I do love Aphex Twin. I like his later stuff as well.

It's all about psychadelic ambient, sometimes known as psybient.

My three favourite acts are:

Adham Skaikh (best album: Drift)
Pete Namlook (best album: From Within I)

and MOST ESPECIALLY:

An Israeli act called Shulman, whose name makes it sound like it's one guy, but it's actually 2 guys. Anyway...

Their two albums "Soundscapes and Modern Tales" and "In Search of a Meaningful Moment" are in my opinion, the greatest ambiance ever recorded by anyone, anywhere.

Listen on mushrooms for best results!

Thievery Corporation is trip hop with light-dub elements, not ambient.

If you want to hear something truly haunting that will scare you to death. I have a Funeral songs compliation that includes a band called Shinjuku Thief "procession of souls"

Highy Disturbing. Give it a shot. It would make a perfect soundtrack for a metalhead horror movie. It's so disturbing it will haunt you for the rest of your life!

Velvet Cacoon's Atropine is quite good. It's limited to 1000 copies, though.

The Compliation is called Funeral Songs. The album cover is posted(red). It has 16 bands of pure torment, disturbing soundscapes. There is a band called N.O.D/ambient band that did a song called "three little pigs" that will always haunt you for the rest of your life. Pure horror music. I really like Sigh "12 Souls" from start ot finish, it's just pure horror soundtrack well exeucuted!

Sigh's "Black Curse" is also haunting, perfect pace, slow, mid-ancient piano...the part when he sings "I am calling the Devil's name...then he sings into this wierd Japanese language calling out the devil. I always play that song to scare the shit out of non-metal people.

Dago, You really ought to try Janvs from Italy. Just one song called "Vega" they sing in Italian and it's a mixture of Ambient/Doom/Black and just pure sadness. Cheers!
