There is always that one lyricist who feels compelled to inject a verbose display of his vocabulary into albums. In some cases these zealous writers have brought down decent albums, this may be the case from bands such as Despised Icon,Origin, and to a lesser extent Dark Angel, Yet for the most extreme cases whatbare some albums that have far too many lyrics, do the lyrics mess the flow of the song up?

Les Discrets would immediately come to mind.

I didn't mean 'ruin' like the title of the thread suggested; I guess I should have read the subject more closely. However, some of the tracks on the album are made less incredible by Waters' vocals, less incredible than say Animals.

Interesting.
The Wall is a bit self indulgent at times (cough*Waters*cough), but I can't really bring myself to say anything negative about it.

I know. Misread the title mostly. The greatness of the majority of it more than makes up for a few indulgent moments. I always thought Pink Floyd was at their best when the vocals made up about 1-2 minutes of a 6-7 minute song.

Nobody better say Neil Peart...you'd have to read his books to understand the lyrics are understating his vocabulary.

Yeah, I know, another straw man, sue me.

Warrel Dane comes to mind. It's almost getting formulaic at this point. Almost. I mean, if you wanted to rip off the guys lyrical style it wouldn't be that hard to figure out. I love his lyrics, but I could see it annoying some people.

haha, no mention of Dani Filth?

That being said and overwrought cheesery aside, he does have an above average command of the language as applied to verse.

Same with Byron of Bal-Sagoth.

Amusing, I was about to mention both. Although my main problem with Filth is not the verbosity, but the way his shrieks the text. I often wished the guy would just shut the fuck up.

And I love Byron, but I don't understand a thing the man says. To me it's part of the fun, so I'm not complaining here. But Bal-Sagoth is actually the second most listened band (all-time) on my Lastfm chart, not because I absolutely love the band (well actually I somewhat do), but mostly because I had to listen to the tracks so many times just to GET what the guy was talking about.

Emmure, although the fact that they're Emmure may also be a factor in how their albums end up being shite.

Over-lyriced? They only seem to have one line per song, although you're right that that is one too many.

If they did a full on Street Fighter concept album all music would stop and the world would go mute, for no other sound would be worth hearing.

Buried Inside - Chronoclast. The lyrics don't ruin the album, but philosophy of time doesn't suit music that sounds like the end of the world.

I don't really understand the lyrics at all, so it's not rly a big deal. Great album.
