So...being as passionate as we are here at metal reviews about music, how much per month do you spend on CD's? How much are you willing to spend on a rare record or how much have you spent on a massive shopping spree until now? Do you feel like you have to buy a CD no matter the cost... Or do you try to find the best deal around? Oh! and... How much do you download...hmmm? Do you feel obligated to support the artist while listening to their music or do you not feel ethically obligated to do so at all?

I haven't bought a cd since I was 16, that was 12 years ago. Metal cds here cost around $25, because they're imported. I like the new idea that some bands are implementing: free download at their websites, and a button to donate what you want via paypal. That's the future.

I buy probably 1-2 per week on average. Once every 6 months or so, I will buy 10-15 online that you won't find in retail stores. I don't download other than to check out songs on youtube, I really like getting the full effect out of fewer albums.

I also enjoy supporting the labels in their ability to fund new metal!

I used to buy anywheres between 50 and 100 cds per year but now I am married and have a home and money is tight. Ive purchased maybe 10 cds over the last 2 years or something like that. It has been hard and pretty gay to say the least. I should get a divorce.

I probably spend way too much on cds being engaged and tight on money, it's a bit stringent especially if I find something I really want to buy. But other than that I probably buy at a minimum 6 or so a month, and at a maximum possibly ten or so not including ripping them from websites for the rarer albums.

I only buy like a couple CDs per month, mostly due to my weird listening habits and cheapassery.

Tryin' to spend less on CDs now. I just don't have the money for it.

So far this month, I've bought 2, the cheapest I could find them. I expect to only buy maybe 2 a month (if even that), used if possible, as cheap as I can find them. If a band I really like comes out with a new CD, I'll buy it.

The new Amorphis is coming out soon. Ought to buy that one. Maybe another CD of theirs too... Used, of course.

Downloads are fine too.

I buy 2 or 3 cd's every week, depending on the price. I would spend more money on that if I could, but since I don't have that amount of money I tend to download a lot of music. I usually buy the cd afterwards though, or I'll go to a concert of that particular band and buy some merchandise.

My music budget is around 200€/month.
Meaning I buy 15 to 30 cds each month.

60€ max. a month on music stuff. I just don't have the money nor the interest to spend more.

Not really. I download a lot, but eventually buy almost everything I have downloaded AND enjoyed, starting with underground (meaning : not rich) bands. And the hard limit I fixed to myself a long time ago is 60€/month.

About 75% of the music I download, I don't like and never listen to again. And don't buy, obviously.

It depends since it varies month to month. This month I spent over 100 bucks (CAD) on cds, but sometimes I can go two months without buying anything or only buying 1 or 2 cds. The trick is for me not to walk into any large cd shops when I pass them by on the street, nor to visit any online distros. If I do that, then it's all over! I cannot resist the call of the cds! :P

I used to download a lot, then I had a horrible accident with my laptop a few years ago and all my downloads went bye bye (yeah, yeah, I know "back up your shit, blah blah blah" fuck off). I started downloading again, but then over time I just stopped downloading almost entirely. Now I only do it from time to time when I want to hear a whole album that I will never buy. But mostly I just use youtube.

When I had a good paying job (600/wk) I would blow 100-150 at the record store since they mostly stuck with European metal labels and major labels for Hard Rock.

Now, I only buy stuff that is out of print, completely unavailable in FLAC and is generally hard to come by. Mostly because these kind of albums had one pop hit that doesn't get played anymore. You had to listen to the right format at the right time to even know it exists. Needless to say, most stuff can be found if you look hard enough. Some stuff just hasn't made it's way to the internet due to most AC albums' fanbase in 1990 are now 50-60 year old empty-nesters who rarely bought albums to begin with and did not unload them in a manner where they would recirculate.

In other words, an old CD your mom owned that she bought on a whim because of one song she managed to catch the name and artist of when the DJ announced it. Of course your mom will either throw the CD away, sell it at a garage sale or won't have the case. So one way or another getting hold of these sorts of records is not easy.

I use to buy a lot of CD's and that's a lot.... For me at least. In the early years of collecting I once spent all my money on CD's which was around 600 CAD (if memory serves me well, maybe not all of it). And that continued and I use to spend 250-300 bucks at least on CD's every month. That was 10 years ago...But now that I am back in school and haven't found a job yet it's sometimes 80 bucks per month up to 120. I spend the loan money that is for me to keep and spend; The money that I should be saving up more and spending a little less on music--but what can I do? I am in love with music and collecting it, end of story :P

Used to spend 100$ a monthish on music but, been down to buying one or two records a month lately... so more like 20-30$.

I feel guilty not owning new albums by favourite bands right away, but otherwise most of the music I download is by dead people which makes me feel less guilty.

Used to be AUD$200+ a month. Nowadays it's less.

As the only few remaining CD stores don't really sell metal, I usually wait until I go to Melbourne or Hobart (the big smokes!) and then blow $100-$200 at JB Hi Fi. That gets me 5-10 CDs.

This happens a couple of times a year.

There are upsides to buying less though. I get to know the music and appreciate it for what it is. It also means I'm more selective and don't buy stuff I don't like.

In the old days I used to buy whatever came out and therefore purchased a lot of stuff I didn't really like.

I usually spend $300-350 on cd's every month, sometimes less sometimes more and usually 95% of it is ordered from a distro/label online and most of the time it's underground stuff.

Downloading is gay.
